LEO Lecturer - Japanese Studies

The College of Literature, Science, and the Arts, and the Department of Asian Languages and Cultures at the University of Michigan invite applications for a LEO Lecturer I in Japanese Language for the Fall Term 2026. This appointment is scheduled to begin on August 25, 2026.
Responsibilities include instruction at any assigned levels and active involvement in teamwork and program affairs. Appointment level will be 33%-66%. This is a renewable one-term appointment.
An M.A. in Japanese language pedagogy, applied linguistics or other relevant field and native or near-native competence in both English and Japanese.
Two years of experience teaching Japanese at the college/university level is preferred. Preference will be given to candidates who have solid Japanese linguistic knowledge and are familiar with contemporary second language teaching methodologies, instructional technologies and curriculum development.
This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Lecturers Employee Organization, AFL-CIO, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
