Overview

The Czechowicz Lab within the Division of Hematology, Oncology, Stem Cell Transplantation and Regenerative Medicine, in the Department of Pediatrics at Stanford University School of Medicine is seeking a motivated, friendly and well-organized Life Science Research Professional 3/4 to join their team. This is a dynamic and stimulating place to work, focused on excellence in research, education and patient care. The lab is focused on hematopoietic stem cell biology, exploring interactions with their microenvironment through basic science and translational medicine, particularly in bone marrow failure, immune deficiencies and/or leukemia.

The laboratory has conducted pioneering work on HSC depletion for donor engraftment and developed pre-clinical agents for targeted HSC conditioning, now advancing to clinical therapies. They use these to understand hematopoietic biology and treat genetic and malignant blood/immune diseases, with complementary efforts in therapeutic gene modification.

The ideal candidate will lead basic and translational projects, oversee others, manage large collaborations, support grants, oversee the lab’s flow cytometer, assist in lab management, and train new members. Fixed Term: 24 months.

Duties

  • Design research approaches for major projects, including background research, experimental design, execution, problem-solving, and writing for publication.
  • Develop new protocols; test and evaluate approaches.
  • Perform complex experiments, maintain records, analyze and interpret data.
  • Assist with research proposals and funding applications.
  • Lead or participate in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Prepare progress reports.
  • Contribute to papers for publication and present at conferences.
  • Conduct ongoing literature review and propose new directions.
  • Oversee supply and equipment budget.
  • Ensure lab compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Supervise and train new staff or students.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Desired Qualifications

Graduate degree (M.S., Ph.D., M.D./Ph.D.) in biological sciences with emphasis on hematopoiesis and/or immunology. Prefer candidate with more than 10 years of experience at the research bench with emphasis on the development of translatable immunological models within the fields of stem/bone marrow transplantation. Must have at least 10 years of experience operating and conducting flow cytometry-based experiments and associated data analysis.

Education & Experience Required

Bachelor's degree in related scientific field and four years of relevant work experience; or Master’s degree in a related scientific field and two years relevant experience; or PhD in related scientific field.

Salary

$100,082 - $118,812 annually (California Bay Area).

Physical Requirements

Frequently stand, walk, twist, bend, stoop, squat, grasp lightly, use fine manipulation, grasp forcefully, perform desk-based computer tasks, use telephone, write by hand, lift, carry, push and pull objects weighing over 40 pounds. Occasionally sit, kneel, crawl, reach and work above shoulders. Rarely climb, scrub, sweep, mop. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Work in dusty, dirty, odorous environment.
