Job Description Summary
The essential function of this position is to provide professional liability litigation management and coordination to in-house counsel and outside defense counsel. This position also manages requests for consultation on medical legal issues from Health System personnel and third-party requests for information.
Job Responsibilities
- Coordinates with in-house counsel in various aspects of the investigation and development of claims and responding to discovery requests. Includes locating witnesses, management of preservation requests, coordinating scheduling of depositions, locating policies and procedures, etc.
- Coordinates with outside counsel in investigation of claims, locating witnesses, medical records, audit trails, equipment, etc.
- Secures necessary medical records for defense counsel, internal reviews, and regulatory and licensure related reviews, including coordination of relationship with medical records production vendor, and troubleshooting issues with respect to the production of records.
- Fields requests from physicians, administrative personnel, etc. on handling of medical records requests, testimony in third-party actions and other medical legal issues, and coordinates responses thereto.
- Manages third-party requests for information and subpoena issued with respect to those requests.
- Coordinates in all aspects of claims management as needed including participation in reserving, making acceptance of service determinations, etc.
- Provides back-up coverage, where needed, to other administrators on team.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
BA/BS required, with 3-5 years paralegal experience or equivalent combination of education and experience; experience in a law firm or hospital legal office preferred; must possess ability to work independently, manage time effectively & use sound judgment; exercise discretion and sensitivity in handling confidential materials; strong verbal & written communication skills; strong attention to detail skill, must be well-organized, self-starter with the ability to take initiative & find solutions to complex situations; must be able to prioritize work & have ability to meet simultaneous deadlines; superior computer skills in a PC-based environment (MS Office including Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook), as well as electronic research skills using Westlaw and/or other commercial databases and Internet resources; must be able to work cooperatively with staff at all levels, able to successfully work on multiple assignments at once and respond quickly to competing time demands, be motivated to work hard and take pride in his/her work; must be careful, accurate, and thorough; good interpersonal skills are essential; Participates in planning long or short-term business objectives.

Pay Range
$43,919.00 - $87,000.00 Annual Rate. Salary offers are made based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, and education as they directly relate to the requirements of the position, as well as internal and market factors and grade profile.
