This is a fixed-term appointment for 2 years, starting in September 2026

The Department of Methodology at LSE coordinates and provides a focus for methodological activities and graduate and undergraduate student education. We are methodologically and disciplinarily diverse, with faculty in sociology, anthropology, international relations, political science, statistics, economics, social psychology, social policy, and criminology.

We are seeking to appoint an individual with established research interests and teaching experience in qualitative methods. The successful candidate will contribute to the Department’s teaching activities through seminar teaching, methods surgeries, and dissertation/capstone supervision.

The successful candidate will teach graduate courses in research design and qualitative methods. They will become part of an internationally outstanding group of social science methodologists, be encouraged to collaborate with faculty on new and ongoing projects and supported to develop their own independent research agenda. The Department has an excellent record of supporting its Postdoctoral Fellows into tenure track positions at leading universities in the UK and internationally. Candidates should have completed their PhD by the time they take up the post. We particularly encourage applications from candidates with a disciplinary background in International Relations.

Candidates should have:

  • A developing record of outstanding publications
  • Ability to teach research methods and research design
  • Commitment to high quality teaching and course development
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing
