This is a career development position and is fixed term for two years. Start date of September 2026.

An LSE Fellowship is intended to be an entry route to an academic career and is deemed by the School to be a career development position. As such, applicants who have already been employed as a LSE Fellow for three years in total are not eligible to apply. If you have any queries about this please contact the HR Division.

The Department of Geography and Environment is seeking a full-time LSE Fellow in Urban Geography and Planning. The successful candidate will join one of the world’s leading geography and environment departments, which enjoys very strong international student demand across a wide range of graduate and undergraduate programmes.

The successful candidate will contribute to the administrative and teaching duties of the Department at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and to the research profile of the Department by maintaining their own research programme and participating in research seminars and meetings.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Completed or close to completing a PhD in a relevant subject, by the post start date
  • A very good knowledge of urban geography and planning, whose work could include, but is not limited to, urban political economy, social life of cities, and urban planning.
  • Relevant teaching and assessment experiences at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.
  • A demonstrated ability to connect Asian urban processes to other world regions through comparative, relational, or transnational approaches would be desirable.
