You will perform a wide range of carpentry and general maintenance tasks to support the upkeep and improvement of university buildings and facilities. This role requires a proactive, detail-oriented individual with strong carpentry skills and a commitment to high-quality work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform carpentry repairs and installations, including doors, windows, frames, furniture, shelving, and blinds
  • Conduct statutory routine inspections and maintenance of fire doors and fixtures across campus.
  • Collaborate with other maintenance staff to address general facility repairs, including minor small works, painting, and flooring tasks.
  • Respond to work orders promptly, ensuring timely completion of maintenance requests.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean and safe condition.
  • Assist with special projects, such as minor works or event setups.
  • Participate in an out of hours call out rota
  • Uphold high standards of health and safety, adhering to all relevant regulations and guidelines.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in carpentry/joinery, preferably in a commercial or education setting.
  • Proficiency with carpentry tools, static woodworking machinery equipment and techniques.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Basic knowledge of related trades (e.g., painting, tiling, general maintenance) is a plus.
  • Positive can do attitude
  • NVQ level 3 or City & Guilds certification or apprenticeship preferred.
