Job Description

Great Basin College is recruiting for a Maintenance Repair Specialist 1 for its main campus in Elko, Nevada. The position involves performing a wide range of maintenance and repair duties, including carpentry, plumbing, painting, electrical work, heating, refrigeration, air conditioning, and appliance repairs. Responsibilities also include diagnosing the cause and extent of common equipment, component, or basic system malfunctions. The Maintenance Repair Specialist 1 is responsible for planning and preparing cost estimates for all in-house projects that need to be completed or repaired. This role ensures that housing complexes are safe, well-maintained, clean, comfortable, and visually appealing environments for students, while also maintaining environmental efficiency for both students and visitors. Additionally, this position will assist with inspections following the refurbishment, remodeling, or repair of apartments and dorm rooms to ensure the quality and completeness of all work performed.

Required Qualifications

• This position requires four (4) years of progressively responsible experience under the supervision of journey level trades persons in two (2) or more of the major building or mechanical trades which included responsibility for performing a variety of repair and maintenance activities, laying out jobs and ordering materials; OR
• An equivalent combination of education and experience as described above

Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.

A valid Class "C" driver's license or higher operator's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.

This position requires working with and around hazardous materials; frequent climbing, lifting and moving heavy objects and/or sharp objects, many in awkward locations.

This position requires working in inclement weather.

Schedule

The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm; this is subject to change based on organizational needs.

This position is designated as Essential Personnel. In the event of a campus emergency, special event, closure to maintain campus safety or building operations, this position may be required to work outside of regularly scheduled hours.

Compensation Grade

Grade 30

In classified service, salary is in Grade and Step. The Step is determined based on the Nevada Administrative Code. Salary placement above a Step 01 at initial appointment is determined based on the recruitment, the candidate's qualifications, internal equity and budgets. A request to accelerate salary must be approved by Human Resources and abide by the Nevada Administrative Code.
