The HKUST Fok Ying Tung Graduate School (FYTGS) is the university-wide office to oversee the entire administrative scope for postgraduate (PG) education. It partners with academic units and other stakeholders to ensure consistent policy and quality control over all PG programs. This includes coordinating student recruitment and admissions, as well as providing all-round oversight on PG students’ qualifications, graduation, and any other areas related to PG affairs.
Position Overview:
The appointee will provide professional IT support to the operation of FYTGS and drive IT initiatives and projects. Responsibilities include:
- Overseeing the functional design, development, enhancement, migration and maintenance of application systems, servers and databases of the office;
- Planning and managing IT projects, including overseeing timelines and procurement processes, consolidating user requirements, providing technical advice and recommendations to colleagues, preparing specifications, coordinating and negotiating with internal and external parties in ensuring a smooth and on-time delivery, and assessing project outcomes;
- Serving as the liaison person with the University’s Information Technology Support Office (ITSO) to ensure that operations of the office are in compliance with IT policies and standards;
- Overseeing the implementation of cybersecurity measures in IT systems and servers of the office in collaboration with the University’s ITSO;
- Providing support to drive innovative initiatives and AI integration to re-engineer business processes and its management in PG education;
- Assisting in the development of management information that facilitates planning and decision making, including the coordination, data analytics, and visualization of information, etc.;
- Providing technical support to the office, including reviewing IT resources, equipment and software, advising staff in basic hardware and software troubleshooting for the daily office operations and events, etc.;
- Performing other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology or related field, with at least 8 years of solid relevant experience on IT system and project management preferably in local tertiary education institution(s). Applicants should have expertise and knowledge in software and application systems development, Linux/Windows servers, and database management.
The appointee should be highly versatile in working in cross-team setting with strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills, and a forward-looking mindset to stay updated with emerging technologies. Familiarity with AI and prompt engineering would be an advantage.
They should have good command of written and spoken English and Chinese including Putonghua, and be able to translate complex technical concepts to users. They are also expected to be proactive, solution-focused, and able to multitask and work independently in a dynamic working environment. Working outside regular office hours is sometimes required.
Additional Information:
Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview and a written test. (Duration: 2 years, renewable)
