The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), a world-class research institution, invites applications for tenure-track positions at all ranks within the Department of Ocean Science.
We welcome outstanding candidates in all disciplines of ocean science and technology, and particularly encourage applications at the Associate Professor to Full Professor levels with research expertise in: ocean biogeochemical modeling; ocean-atmosphere interactions; cryosphere dynamics; climate variability and change; ocean remote sensing and technology; AI and data-driven oceanography; biological oceanography with a focus on higher trophic organisms; blue economy inclusive of fishery sciences.
About Department of Ocean Science
The Department of Ocean Science (OCES), established in 2018, is the only ocean-focused department among local universities in Hong Kong, and is committed to multidisciplinary research and education in ocean science and technology.
Located in the Clear Water Bay, HKUST offers a distinctive advantage as the only university in Hong Kong with an on-campus waterfront Ocean Research Facility (OCRF)—an exceptional platform enabling innovative ocean and environmental research.
We pursue studies spanning from fundamental sciences to cutting-edge technologies, while actively connecting scientific knowledge with real-world impacts through collaborations with governmental and industrial partners. We play a leading role in ocean science at the local, regional, and international levels.
Qualifications
Applicants must hold a PhD degree in ocean science or a closely related discipline. For Assistant Professor positions, at least 2 years of post-doctoral experience is preferred. Successful candidates should demonstrate strong research records, the potential to establish strong research programs, and a commitment to excellence in teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The medium of instruction is English at HKUST.
Appointment Terms
Initial appointment is typically on a three-year contract, renewable subject to mutual agreement. Eligible candidates at the rank of Associate Professor or above may be granted substantiated (tenured) appointments at HKUST, subject to a positive outcome through the University’s formal academic review and approval processes. A gratuity is payable upon successful completion of the contract. HKUST offers an internationally competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits include annual leave, medical and dental benefits; housing benefits will also be provided where applicable.
