Mathematics Education Teaching Faculty

Job Summary

The Elementary Education Program in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Wisconsin-Madison invites applicants for the position of Mathematics Education Teaching Faculty. The program prepares undergraduate teacher candidates to teach in ways that are engaging and affirming, building on students’, families’, and communities’ resources, particularly for students from marginalized racial, cultural, linguistic, socioeconomic, and dis/ability groups. Through their participation in the program, teacher candidates gain awareness of how schools reflect both the strengths and inequities of our multicultural, multilingual society and become more committed to and more capable of advancing equity and social justice through their professional practice. The program prepares teacher candidates for a variety of certifications: K-9th grade; K-9 with a minor in Early Childhood Education (ECE); K-9 with a minor in English as a Second Language (ESL); or K-9 with minors in both ECE and ESL. This position will begin August 2026.

We seek a colleague to join our vibrant community of teacher educators, who include world-class scholars, leaders of state and national organizations for teachers and teacher educators, accomplished teachers, and graduate students from all over the globe. Although the Teaching Faculty position is non-tenure track, it is renewable, and we seek a long-term colleague who will collaborate with other stakeholders (including other instructors, staff in the School of Education’s Teacher Education Center, and community members in and around local schools) to shape and grow the Elementary Education Program.

  • Teach undergraduate courses in the Elementary Education Program as needed (each course counts as 25% of a full workload), focusing on courses on mathematical content knowledge for teaching and methods for teaching mathematics.
  • Teach seminars associated with clinical field components of the elementary education program, as needed (each seminar counts as 25% of a full workload; teaching faculty typically teach one seminar in fall and two seminars in spring). This entails:
    • Planning and leading seminars associated with the practicum and student teaching experiences
    • Supervising and mentoring field supervisors of students in the seminar
    • Tracking teacher candidates’ performance and progress and supporting them in completing their teacher education final performance assessment
  • Supervise teacher candidates in their field placements as needed (supervising 6-7 practicum students, or 4-5 student teachers, counts as 25% of a full workload).
  • Attend meetings and serve on committees related to the Elementary Education program as needed (this counts as 25% of a full workload). Examples of such work include collaborating with the Teacher Education Center to recruit and support cooperating teachers, participating in Elementary Education program design meetings and collaborating on continuous program improvement.

  • Provides classroom, online and/or laboratory instruction, including grading
  • Assists in development of grant proposals for funding of model instruction programs
  • Develops teaching techniques that enhance course effectiveness in alignment with desired outcomes and established strategy and may train other staff in use of these techniques
