MATHEMATICS INSTRUCTOR- TENURE TRACK
Peninsula College, a Washington State Community College, is recruiting for a full-time, tenure-track instructor of Mathematics to begin work for Fall Quarter 2025. The successful candidate will be an excellent teacher whose enthusiasm for the subject will be demonstrated in the classroom. In addition to delivering associates degrees and certificate programs, Peninsula College is committed to preparing students for transfer to baccalaureate programs and is collaborating with several state universities to offer select four-year programs. We are looking for professionals who show exceptional classroom skills, will challenge their students through innovative and rigorous coursework, and will serve as conscientious and dedicated advisors throughout their students experience at the college.
The faculty member will primarily teach within the Mathematics Division, but opportunities to teach in other areas may also exist, depending on the candidates expertise. Additional areas of expertise might include Computer Science or areas of the Natural Sciences.
Essential Functions
- Teach a broad range of Mathematics courses from Arithmetic through Calculus, including Statistics. Most of our classes consist of Statistics, Math for Non-Science Majors, and Beginning Algebra;
- Provide academic advising and student assessment; maintain accurate student records;
- Maintain office hours to assist students;
- Evaluate, develop and modify curriculum to reflect current scholarship in the teaching of mathematics;
- Use current technology to enhance teaching and teach online;
- Implement learning outcomes-based assessment of the Mathematics curriculum;
- Serve the college community through service on committees.
Professional Qualifications
- Master of Science in mathematics or related area is required;
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, are essential. This includes the ability to speak clearly and fully comprehend written and spoken English and to communicate clearly with native and non-native English speakers;
- Demonstrated focus on student success with experience in facilitating the success of individuals representing a broad range of academic, socioeconomic, cultural, ability, and ethnic backgrounds;
- Demonstrated excellence as an effective teacher scholar.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience teaching community college students;
- Experience teaching online in asynchronous, synchronous (Zoom-based), and hybrid modalities;
- Experience with evidence-based teaching methods, facilitating group work, use of inquiry-based and other active learning pedagogies, and/or contextualized instruction;
- Experience designing innovative assessment techniques and strategies for classroom assessment;
- Willingness to travel periodically within the colleges service district to provide instruction at the colleges extension campuses;
- Willingness to facilitate activities focused on students success in STEAM fields and transfer to bachelors level programs.
Required Physical Abilities
Work is typically performed in a classroom environment (onsite, hybrid, and online) and requires standing and/or sitting and using computers for extended periods of time.
Required Work Schedule and Work Environment
40 hours per week. Onsite at the Port Angeles Campus, with the possibility to teach at the Forks and Port Townsend campuses.
Employment Terms
A full-time tenure-track position beginning the 2025 Fall quarter; this is a nine-month academic year appointment. The College has a negotiated faculty salary schedule in which placement on the schedule is determined by education level and experience. Initial annual salary placement is anticipated to be $70,206.00 - $97,889.00 for a standard 175-day contract, depending on qualifications. A standard 175-day contract is written annually for the period of September to June. Late contracts will be prorated on the basis of work-days remaining in the contract year.
