Job Description:
Augustana College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track assistant professor in teacher education to join a collaborative, innovative, and supportive faculty beginning with the 2025-2026 academic year. Preferred experiences include: developing family and community partnerships designed to enhance local schools, collaborating with school personnel within diverse schools, teaching undergraduate teacher education courses, supervising teacher candidates in field placements, and an interest in or experience teaching courses related to the social context of schools and/or educational psychology.
The successful candidate will teach 24 credits per 10-month academic year (standard courses are 4 credits), including some combination of foundational courses in teacher education (such as Educational Psychology, School in Society, Teaching Methods courses, etc.), where the specific course load will be informed by the candidate's experience and expertise. Other responsibilities commensurate with the individual's academic background and experiences will likely include a combination of: supervising student teacher field experiences in the Quad Cities area, leading the student teaching Seminar in Classroom Management, advising education majors, and/or teaching Augustana College general education courses (such as the First Year Inquiry course, a January term course open to any Augustana student, etc.). Finally, the successful candidate will contribute to the Education Department's efforts to richly implement the Illinois Culturally Responsive Teaching and Leading Standards by developing partnerships and programs that will enhance our students' engagement with families and local communities.
The successful applicant's scholarly agenda will be supported in several ways. Pre-tenure faculty at Augustana have access to internal funding to support scholarship, receive support in seeking external grant funding if appropriate, and have a professional meeting allowance to support travel. A semester-long pre-tenure leave to pursue a scholarly agenda is available during the third or fourth year of employment.
