Duration of Contract: 3 Year Fixed term contract. Renewal subject to review.

Salary: UH9 £58,225 to £69,488 pro rata pa by annual increments on achieving designated skills and experience

Annual Leave: 35 days (pro rata) plus standard public holidays and an additional 4 days including the closure of our office between Christmas and New Year

Location: College Lane Campus, Hatfield

The University of Hertfordshire is opening a new Medical School with the first cohort of students starting in September 2026. There is currently a committed academic and clinical core team, developing, adopting and adapting the MBBS curriculum in line with City St George’s Medical School, University of London, who are our sponsor.

Main duties and responsibilities

The postholder will take the lead for Year 1 Assessment and supports the MBBS Head of Assessment to establish the assessment function for the new MBBS programme, in accordance with the GMC competencies framework. They contribute in shaping the assessment strategies, policies, and processes to ensure compliance with GMC standards, as well as driving excellence and innovation in assessment practices within the new medical school. The postholder will have a particular focus on leading assessments for the first year of the MBBS programme but is expected to provide input across the 5 years.

Skills and experience required

The successful candidate will have experience in medical education and assessment within a higher education setting, with a deep understanding of assessment principles, methodologies, and best practices. They will be able to demonstrate evidence of developing and implementing assessment policies and procedures that comply with regulatory requirements and promote excellence in medical education. They will possess strong organisational and administrative skills, the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously and excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Qualifications required

Degree (or equivalent) in Health Science or a related field.
