Position TitleMechanical Technician
Job DescriptionMissouri Western State University invites qualified candidates to apply for our Mechanical Technician to care for the MWSU campus buildings. Under the direction of the Mechanical Supervisor, the Mechanical Technician performs a variety of general maintenance and repairs to ensure all university mechanical systems remain in good physical condition.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:- Use a variety of trade practices associated with occupations such as electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and related trades to preform work involving maintenance of all mechanical systems.
- Repair and install plumbing fixtures
- Operate a power drain opening cable machine
- Use gasoline or diesel power equipment such as forklift, skid loader, dump trucks, zero turn mowers, weed eaters, and chainsaws to complete projects.
- Assist with snow removal.
- Assist with special events; set-up and tear down
- Other projects and responsibilities may be added at the University’s discretion.
- Preforms other duties of a similar nature or level as assigned.
- Assist other trades as required.
- Basic electrical, plumbing, and HVAC knowledge
- Ability to perform preventative maintenance on all mechanical equipment
- Understanding of local, state, and federal codes.
- Experience working around high voltage equipment.
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid driver’s license
- One-year post-secondary trade school or vocational in one or more of the listed trades or three years’ experience directly related to one or more of the listed trades.
- Commercial Driver’s License
- Certification in HVAC (Universal)
- Experience with computerized maintenance management systems.

- Heavy Work
- Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, and work space restrictions.
- Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function.
- Occasional weekend and after hours work will be required.
Non-Exempt
Additional Demands- Must be able to work in extreme cold and hot conditions both indoors and outside.
- Exposed to the intense noise of equipment, machinery, and tools.
- Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, extreme temperatures, fumes, odors, dust, gases, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, and working at height.
- OT as required.
M-F 7:00 am – 3:30 pm
