Medical Laboratory Technician/Phlebotomy Clinical Coordinator - Grant Funded

Job Description

The SUNY Orange Clinical Laboratory Science department is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT)/Phlebotomy Clinical Coordinator to serve as the primary liaison between the Medical Laboratory Technician and Phlebotomy programs and their affiliated clinical education sites. The Coordinator oversees the development, maintenance, and evaluation of clinical partnerships; ensures adherence to accreditation and regulatory standards; and supports the effective integration of clinical education within the academic curriculum.

The Clinical Coordinator promotes clear, consistent communication between the College and clinical partners, ensuring student placement in high-quality, diverse clinical settings that support program competencies and national certification requirements.

Key responsibilities include:

• Serve as the primary liaison between the College and affiliated clinical sites for both the MLT and Phlebotomy programs.
• Collaborate with the Department Chair to develop and maintain policies and procedures for clinical site selection, utilization, and assessment.
• Coordinate student clinical placements, ensuring equitable and appropriate learning experiences.
• Maintain accurate clinical records and documentation in compliance with NAACLS standards and institutional policies.
• Communicate with clinical instructors and site coordinators.
• Monitor student progress and performance during clinical rotations, providing guidance, feedback, and remediation plans as needed.
• Conduct periodic site visits to observe students and evaluate clinical environments.
• Ensure that clinical learning outcomes align with the sequence and scope of the academic curriculum.
• Maintain communication with students regarding clinical requirements, schedules, and performance expectations.
• Assist with the preparation of program reports, self-studies, and accreditation documentation for NAACLS or other relevant accrediting bodies.
• Participate in curriculum development, assessment, and program review to ensure alignment between didactic and clinical education.
• Participate in teaching courses and evaluation of student achievement.
• Engage in a minimum of 36 hours of documented continuing professional development every 3 years.
• Collaborate with College departments and external partners to expand and strengthen clinical education opportunities.
• Participate in program, division, and institutional meetings and serve on committees as assigned.

Job Requirements:

Education and Experience Required: Master's degree in Medical Laboratory Science or a related field. Current certification/NYS License as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (ASCP or equivalent). Minimum of two (2) years of clinical laboratory experience. Computer literacy. Ability to travel between campuses and clinical sites.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Worker Characteristics:

• Knowledge of NAACLS standards and clinical education requirements, including the ability to support program compliance through appropriate coordination, documentation, and communication with the Chair.
• Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, demonstrating accuracy, professionalism, and the ability to maintain confidentiality in accordance with College policies and contractual responsibilities.
• Ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, program leadership, and external clinical partners to support high-quality clinical learning experiences.
• Experience assisting in the development and maintenance of clinical affiliation agreements, with the capacity to help identify and recommend potential new clinical sites for Chair review and approval, consistent with established College processes.
• Demonstrated ability to manage assigned responsibilities, prioritize tasks, meet timelines, and exercise sound judgment while working independently within the parameters of the role and contract.
• Experience in Community College or higher education environments, especially within health professions programs.
• Bilingual or multilingual proficiency is desirable to support student success and strengthen communication with diverse clinical partners.

Salary: $62,117. Stipend per contract; redefined load of 12 credits or 16 contacts per AY. This is a Staff & Chair, 10-month, Grant Funded position and is contingent upon the continued availability of grant funds.
