Medical Research Tech III - Wiener Lab

Position Description

Employees in this classification provide support in an assigned research laboratory conducting specified phases of research projects. Performs work independently and is responsible for developing new procedures and techniques to be utilized in the laboratory and in experiments, and new applications for standard procedures and techniques. Work is performed under usual laboratory conditions. Some hazards may be present due to use of radioactive, carcinogenic or other potentially harmful substances. Responsibilities also include ensuring overall cleanliness of the laboratory and laboratory equipment, and ordering and maintaining an adequate stock of necessary supplies. May instruct or direct work of subordinate laboratory personnel.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in biochemistry, molecular biology, microbiology, fluorescence spectroscopy; proficiency in membrane transport assays.
• Experience working with bacteria, parasites, and eukaryotic cells; cloning and amplification of genes and proficiency in cellular viability assays.
• Knowledge of fluorescent-based ion transport assays, microbiology and biochemistry.
• Knowledge of preparing and conducting biochemical experiments, including cell viability assays.
• Experience working with integral membrane proteins and possessing a fundamental understanding of integral membrane protein structure/function.
• Knowledgeable in preparing chemical solutions and growth media; work experience in sterile conditions and in standard molecular biology techniques.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in one of the sciences, or equivalent combination (four (4) years) of job-related experience and college education. Experience may be substituted for college education on a year for year basis.
