Member of the Independent Welsh Pay Review Body (IWPRB) for Teachers’ Pay and Conditions
Remuneration: £300 Per day plus reasonable expenses up to 30 days per year for a 5 year term
Brief background on the Body
The IWPRB reports to the Cabinet Secretary for Education in Wales. The responsibility for setting teachers’ and leaders’ pay and conditions in Wales transferred to the Welsh Ministers from 30 September 2018 under the Welsh Ministers (Transfer of Functions) Order 2018.
Reason for appointment
We are looking for one new Member to join the Independent Welsh Pay Review Body (IWPRB) for Teachers’ Pay and Conditions. This position provides an influential and intellectually stimulating challenge for the right individual, who will contribute to the recruitment, retention and motivation of an effective teacher workforce.
Essential criteria
All candidates need to demonstrate the following skills and behaviours:
- Experience at a strategic level within a complex organisation in the private, public or voluntary sector.
- Judgement in complex decision-making.
- Ability to analyse and interpret complex and sensitive information.
- Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form.
- A demonstrable commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.
- Respect for and understanding of the principles of public life and the ability to act impartially.
- A focus on our future generations and their education.
- Credibility with a range of stakeholders including Ministers, senior Government officials and senior employer and trade union representatives.
Desirable criteria
In addition, it would be advantageous if you were to possess the following:
- A background in economic analysis and evaluation
Welsh Language
Welsh language skills are desirable for this post.
Eligibility
You are eligible to apply if you are able to provide evidence of your experience against the skills and behaviours set out above. Applicants should be persons who conduct themselves at all times in a manner which will maintain public confidence.
Please note, you will be disqualified from applying if you:
- have within the preceding five years, been convicted in the UK, Channel Islands or the Isle of Man of any offence and have received a sentence of imprisonment (whether suspended or not) for a period of not less than three months without the option of a fine
- are the subject of a bankruptcy restrictions order or an interim order or have made a composition or arrangement with creditors
- have had an earlier term of appointment with IWPRB terminated on the grounds it was not conducive to the interests or good management of the body for you to continue to hold office
- are the subject of a disqualification order under the Company Directors Disqualification Act 1986.
Meetings are held both virtually and face to face. Travel may be required to other areas of Wales for meetings and/or school visits. The closing date for receipt of applications is 3 October 2025 (4pm). Applications received after this will not be considered. It is expected that interviews will be held in the week commencing 3 November 2025.
