Men's Basketball Head Coach
The Part-Time Head Basketball Coach is responsible for organizing and directing all aspects of the basketball program at Macomb Community College. Responsibilities include coaching, recruiting, academic monitoring, program administration, and fostering a positive student-athlete experience. The position supports the mission, values, and policies of Macomb Community College and the NJCAA.
1. Program Leadership & Administration
- Oversee the daily operations of the basketball program, including planning, organizing, scheduling, and conducting practices and competitions.
- Coordinate team travel, logistics, meals, lodging, and equipment in alignment with institutional procedures and budgetary guidelines.
- Develop, enforce, and communicate team policies consistent with NJCAA and institutional rules.
- Conduct and maintain inventory of team uniforms, equipment, and supplies.
2. Recruitment & Retention
- Recruit and enroll qualified student-athletes who demonstrate potential for athletic and academic success in compliance with NJCAA and institutional guidelines.
- Develop and implement a year-round recruiting plan, including outreach to local, regional, and national prospects.
- Build strong relationships with high school coaches, AAU programs, and key recruiting networks.
3. Academic Support & Student Development
- Work with Student-Athlete Success Navigator to monitor and support the academic progress of student-athletes, emphasizing retention, eligibility, and graduation.
- Instill values of sportsmanship, discipline, character development, leadership, and personal accountability.
4. Compliance
- Ensure full compliance with all NJCAA Division II rules and regulations, attending required meetings and maintaining program integrity.
- Hold student-athletes accountable for conduct consistent with NJCAA, institutional, and team policies.
5. Coaching & Player Development
- Develop practice plans, game strategies, scouting reports, and player development programs.
- Demonstrate strong knowledge of basketball fundamentals, conditioning principles, and athlete evaluation.
6. Staff Supervision
- Hire, supervise, and evaluate assistant coaches, volunteers, and student managers.
- Coordinate responsibilities among staff to ensure program efficiency and high performance.
7. Community Engagement & Fundraising
- Positively represent the college, athletic department, and basketball program to external stakeholders.
- Develop and oversee fundraising initiatives to enhance program resources.
- Conduct camps, clinics, and community outreach activities to promote the program and college.
Additional Expectations:
- Serve as a positive ambassador for the institution and athletic department.
- Maintain professionalism, sportsmanship, and ethical conduct.
- Support athletic department operations and cross-sport collaboration.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
Associate's degree required. Bachelor's degree preferred.
