The UC Irvine Student Health Center is a comprehensive outpatient clinic staffed with licensed primary care physicians, psychiatrists, licensed clinical social workers, dentists, physician assistants, registered nurse practitioners, and registered nurses. Medical specialists from various disciplines including dermatology, orthopedics/sports medicine, gynecology, internal medicine, and ENT provide on-site consultation on a regular basis. Student Health also offers basic radiology and clinical laboratory services, insurance consultation, and an on-site pharmacy, making SHC a comprehensive and convenient clinic dedicated to serving students.
Your Role on the Team
Under the general supervision of the Chief of Psychiatry, the Mental Health Administrative Specialist is responsible for coordinating patient services, particularly in complex cases, to support the treatment process for patients under psychiatric care at the Student Health Center. This requires comprehensive professional knowledge about efficient office skills, and outstanding interpersonal effectiveness with appropriate boundaries.
As part of a psychiatric and general medical multidisciplinary team and the general administrative support staff, the Mental Health Administrative Specialist will provide timely coordination of quality health care services to meet the individual patient's specific health care needs in a cost effective manner. The Mental Health Administrative Specialist acts as a collaborative team member with Psychiatric staff, Front and Back Office staff, Nursing, other physicians and other building units in coordinating patient needs in the continuum of care. The position may also serve other patients of the Student Health Center in care coordination.
What It Takes to be Successful
Required:
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with appropriate professional boundaries
- Understanding of psychiatry service, health care delivery and sensitivity about treatment stigma.
- Understanding of transitional-aged youth.
- High level practice and knowledge about office software.
- Responsible work-ethic, with attention to detail and independent motivation.
- Timely, accurate documentation and efficient organizational skills.
- Ability to manage 'difficult customers' by phone and in a face-to-face setting.
- Ability to multitask, following through on multiple projects simultaneously.
- Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
Preferred:
- General knowledge about CPT, ICD 9/10, DSM IV and DSM 5.
- Efficient advanced computer skills.
- Medical Assistant Certification, Licensed Vocational Nurse Licensure, Psychiatric Technician.
- Two year experience in medical office or university unit regarding health care or student affairs
Special Conditions:
- This position's schedule is M-F and during traditional work hours, however, weekend or non-traditional work hours may be required for special projects or busy times of the year, or when strict deadlines must be met. In the case of extended hours, this position may be required to work those hours.
- Employment in this position is contingent upon successful completion of a Department of Justice (DOJ) Live Scan background check, verification and continued monitoring or licensure as it applies to the position, and successful completion of our background review or credentialing process, as appropriate to the position.
- The employee must comply with OSHA, CA/OSHA, and CDC recommendations and requirements regarding vaccination and testing of healthcare employees. This includes, but may not be limited to; current hepatitis B immunizations, annual flu vaccinations, and annual tuberculosis screening. The employee must comply with CDPH and UC COVID-19 Vaccine Policy, by providing proof of Full Vaccination or submitting a request for Exception.
- Per the UC Ethics Briefing, the employee is responsible for reporting any and all potential conflicts of interest to their supervisor in a timely manner.

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $26.44- $32.24 (Hourly).
