Mental Health Specialist III
Position Summary:
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Mental Health Specialist III in the Partial Hospital Child and Adolescent Services within Rutgers University Behavioral Healthcare.
The primary purpose of the Partial Hospital Mental Health Specialist III position is to provide daily direct care services to the program's consumers as directed by the unit supervisor. Demonstrates competence in recognizing the unique needs and behaviors of children with emotional and/or developmental needs. Provides appropriate assistance and renders service in accordance with UBHC policies and procedure in a culturally competent and Person Centered manner. Actively participates in crisis interventions.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Provides direct care responsibilities for individuals served as assigned.
- Engages consumer/patient in appropriate intervention based on service plan and supervisory directions.
- Interacts and communicates with individuals served in a wellness and recovery focused manner.
- Responds to crisis situations utilizing UBHC endorsed crisis intervention techniques/skills.
- Facilitates daily living skills groups and therapeutic activities as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Associate's Degree and two (2) years experience in the provision of appropriate services to youth or a related field or Bachelor's Degree in a relevant social or mental health field; or a high school diploma and five (5) years experience in the provision of appropriate services to youth.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Must be able to lift up to seventy (70) pounds multiple times a day.
- Requires bending, lifting, sitting. Time spent in a school environment.
- Some travel to client homes and community agencies
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Moderate noise (examples: business office with computers and printers, light traffic).
- Program and classroom setting is active and sometimes noisy.
- Varied settings in home.

- Subject to unpredictable situations, patient crisis, both medical and psychiatric.
- Occasionally exposed to consumers exhibiting assaultive behaviors.
- Exposure to bloodborne pathogens that require use of personal protective equipment.
- May be exposed to varying or extreme temperatures.
