Mental Health Technician
The Mental Health Partner (MHP) plays a vital role in supporting clinical staff and supervisors to promote safe, compassionate patient care. This position works within the Behavioral Health Unit (BHU) and other clinical areas as needed, assisting patients with daily living activities, monitoring and observation, documentation, transport, and group facilitation. The MHP ensures a safe, supportive environment for patients, staff, and visitors while upholding UCSF's PRIDE values.
Key Responsibilities:
Patient Care & Support
- Make patient rounds, observe patients in seclusion/restraints, and report findings to RN.
- Assist with patient hygiene, meals, vital signs, specimen collection/transport, laundry, and belongings retrieval.
- Support patients during crisis/assaultive situations; maintain safety and de-escalation.
- Escort patients to appointments and participate in therapeutic groups/community meetings.
- Document observations, activity levels, nutrition, intake/output, oxygen saturation, and more.
- For outpatient services: support patient intake, discharge, and clerical tasks for medical records.
Administrative & Clerical Support
- Answer phones/doors, stock supplies, complete lab slips, schedule appointments, and prepare paperwork.
- Register patient admissions, verify eligibility, obtain authorizations, and complete admission documentation in Apex and Psych Consult.
- Escort admissions to the unit and assist with patient valuables.
- Support nurses and Officers of the Day with errands, pharmacy/lab runs, and coordination.
General Duties
- Maintain cleanliness of emergency equipment and workspaces.
- Uphold UCSF's Living PRIDE standards of professionalism, respect, integrity, diversity, and excellence.
- Adhere to infection control, privacy, and safety protocols.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
