Job Description Summary / TWC Summary
JOB SUMMARY: The Equipment Manager is responsible for overseeing the inventory, maintenance, and distribution of audio, video, and production equipment used by the School of Communication and KTSU2. This Includes managing the check-out and return of media equipment to students and faculty, coordinating repairs and replacements, and supporting classroom learning and academic projects. The Equipment Manager works closely with faculty, students, staff, and the KTSU2 Operations Manager to ensure that equipment resources are well maintained, accessible, and effectively support Instructional and creative needs.
Essential Duties Summary
- Manage the acquisition, receiving, inspection, storage, and issuance of media equipment for the School of Communication and KTSU2 (e.g., cameras, microphones, lighting kits, tripods, recorders, cables, and accessories).
- Oversee the check-out and return process for students, faculty, and staff, ensuring equipment accountability, proper handling, and compliance with established policies.
- Develop, implement, and maintain procedures for equipment use, check-out/check-in, damage reporting, and late return policies.
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date Inventory records (physical and electronic) for all equipment, track usage, location, and condition.
- Coordinate and schedule repairs and preventative maintenance for all classroom and field production equipment.
- Serve as liaison to vendors and suppliers to facilitate repairs, replacements, purchases, and warranty claims.
- Work collaboratively with faculty and the KTSU2 Operations Manager to forecast instructional and course-related equipment needs and plan for upgrades or replacements
- Provide basic technical guidance and training to students and faculty on the proper use and care of field and classroom media equipment.
- Supervise student assistants assigned to the equipment room; provide training on Inventory systems, equipment handling, and customer service.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and secure equipment checkout area.
- Monitor equipment budgets, assist with cost estimates, and prepare reports on Inventory status, damage, and replacement needs.
- Ensure compliance with university safety policies and procedures for handling and transporting technical equipment.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the KTSU2 Operations Manager or departmental leadership.

Hiring Range $64,197.37-$81,851.64
Education
Required: Bachelor’s degree in communication, media production, broadcast technology, audiovisual technology, or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred: Master’s degree in communication, media management, or a related field.
Required Licensing/Certification None Required.

- Ability to maintain the security or integrity of critical infrastructure, which may Include communications systems, computer networks and systems, computer networks and systems, cybersecurity systems, electrical grid, hazardous waste treatment or water treatment system.
Work Experience
Required:
- 3-5 years of experience in equipment or inventory management, audiovisual services, or academic technology support.
- Experience using inventory tracking systems or asset management software.
- Strong organizational, recordkeeping, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff.
Preferred:
- Experience working in a university or college media center or communication school.
- Experience supervising student workers or support staff.
- Familiarity with audiovisual and digital media production equipment used In classroom instruction and student projects.
- Experience with procurement, budgeting, and vendor coordination
Working/Environmental Conditions
- Limited standing and/or walking.
- Handling light weight objects.
- Using or carrying equipment.
- Stoop, bend or lift.
- Work primarily in an equipment room and classroom support environment.
- Requires standing, walking, and lifting/moving media equipment regularly.
- Occasional travel for equipment delivery, vendor visits, or professional development may be required.
