"Micrometeorological Instrument Technologist"

Description of Work:

This role will divide time between UNL's East Campus in Lincoln, NE, and the Eastern Nebraska Research, Extension, and Education Center (ENREEC), located near Ithaca, NE—an easy 30-minute drive from campus.

As the Micrometeorological Instrument Technologist, you will:

• Be responsible for the micro-meteorological instrumentation at the Agricultural Meteorology field research sites at ENREEC. The agricultural meteorology laboratory houses sophisticated micro-meteorological equipment for measuring carbon, water, trace gas, and energy fluxes. Sensors are tested here in preparation for use at various field study sites.
• Design, modify and collaborate with PI regarding protocol and methodology of research topics and provide research planning/design input.
• Install, maintain, and calibrate highly sophisticated meteorological instruments.
• Provide technical consultation to the faculty, students and staff.
• Collect detailed agro-meteorological data as part of two long-term research projects (AmeriFlux Management Project and Long-Term Agricultural Research Project).
• Analyze data comparing against previous results and scientific theory, review for quality of data output, ensure data is not compromised, compile the results, and prepare progress reports to include in publications of the data.

Minimum Required Qualifications:

• Master's degree in environmental science, agronomy, engineering or related field plus two years' experience managing/carrying out experiments in environmental, agronomy, or engineering sciences. Additional relevant education may substitute for experience on a year for year basis. OR
• Bachelor's degree in environmental science, agronomy, engineering or related field plus four years' experience managing/carrying out experiments in environmental, agronomy. or engineering sciences. AND
• Project management and problem-solving/troubleshooting experience required.
• Knowledge of compliance and safety regulations.
• Strong interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
• Good technical, analytical, organizational, problem-solving and decision-making skills necessary.

Preferred Qualifications:

The following qualifications are preferred but not required:

• Prefer field work experience making measurements using micrometeorology sensors.
• Experience installing, maintaining and calibrating micrometeorological instruments.
