Description

The Pratt Institute Office of the Provost invites applications to the position of Model Services & Classroom Manager. The Model Services & Classroom Manager supports the day-to-day operational management of live figure models across all academic departments at Pratt's Brooklyn campus, supporting the needs of faculty and programs alike. The successful candidate is a problem solver with excellent communication and organizational skills, handling interpersonal relations of students, faculty, staff and model service providers with ease and professionalism. Working collaboratively with many academic departments, this position will handle the hiring, scheduling and management of figure models in relation to the foundation, fine art, and design academic curriculum. This position will also support the use of general education classrooms, reporting the conditions of facilities and academic needs to the Facilities Department, and coordinating technology requests with IT, in collaboration with the operations team in the Office of the Provost.

Examples of Duties

  • Responsible for the hiring, scheduling, and management of model services for various departments across the Institute, overseeing 30 independent contractors over 650 individual appointments per semester
  • Provide thorough and professional communication to model service providers and faculty, be the primary point of contact for ongoing scheduling across departments
  • Practice crises management and de-escalation holding sensitive conversations with figure models and faculty around interpersonal behavior in classroom spaces, bodily hygiene, and breaches to the model agreement and guidelines; Conversations may lead to disciplinary action and termination
  • Work with the Office of the Provost in vetting, hiring, and training new model service providers
  • Establish and enforce community conduct policies for and between Model services and Faculty
  • Works with department technicians to facilitate and ensure safe working environments for individuals providing model services in the classroom
  • Develop, support, and continuously improve databases that facilitate workflows for onboarding, scheduling, and paying models.
  • Process model service payments bi-weekly, provide budget updates to department heads
  • Collaborates with department Chairs/faculty for anticipated model services needs
  • Support the Office of the Provost in reporting facilities conditions for General Use Classrooms and administering conditions reporting process for Academic Affairs
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree required

Experience: Minimum 2 years scheduling or related experience. Expertise or interest in art, design, or architecture, and experience in an educational institution, non-profit institution, or other educational environments is a plus. A strong track record of interpersonal and/or supervisory managerial experience is preferred as well as experience working with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.

Skills

  • Outstanding interpersonal competence, effective and professional written and verbal communication
  • Ability to work with a diverse population of faculty, technicians, staff, and students
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Proficiency in Google Sheets functions such as queries, VLookup, Array formulas, basic SQL and coding, a desire and willingness to develop technical skills
  • Proven customer service skills, experience working with a wide variety of constituents with patience and kindness, and the ability to relay information in different ways
  • Experience managing people, scheduling appointments, or acting in a supervisory or leadership position
  • Budget oversight or management and/or experience in payment processing is a plus.
  • Ability to work under pressure, proven time management skills

Supplemental Information:

This is an in-person, on-the-ground position, with hours Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. The position will involve the support of multiple spaces and will require monitoring and surveying spaces in various locations on the Brooklyn campus. This is an OPEIU Local 153 Clerical position.
