"Model Steward for the VHP4Safety project"

Job Summary

At Maastricht University’s Faculty of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences, you will contribute to the Virtual Human Platform for Safety (VHP4Safety), a national initiative advancing risk assessment through smart, transparent, and FAIR model integration in toxicology and health risk assessment.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with modelling experts to prepare models for reuse, separating inputs, computations, outcomes, and documentation.
• Organise model components using Research Object Crates (RO-Crates) for reproducibility and transparency.
• Align work with the project’s data steward and coordinate model-data integration using platforms like FAIRdom/SEEK.
• Experiment with submitting structured models to public repositories such as BioModels and establish best practices.
• Explore advanced applications including improving model structure with AI-driven tools, translating models between programming languages (R, Python, Matlab) and SBML, and extracting mathematical components in LaTeX.

Qualifications and Requirements

• A master’s degree or PhD in a relevant field such as bioinformatics, toxicology, systems biology, or data science.
• Demonstrated experience with mathematical modelling (e.g., PBPK, QSAR) and FAIR/Open Science practices.
• Proficiency with scientific programming languages (e.g., Python, R, Matlab) and data standards (e.g., JSON, SBML).
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills to liaise with modellers, data stewards, and external partners.
• Familiarity with legal and ethical aspects of data sharing (e.g., GDPR, copyright).
• A strong interest in reproducibility and digital research.

What We Offer

An employment contract for 12 months at 1.0 FTE, with a salary ranging from €3378 to €6209 per month based on experience (scale 10). Additional benefits include an 8.0% holiday allowance, 8.3% year-end bonus, flexible working hours, partial remote work, 29 vacation days plus 4 public holidays, pension scheme, and opportunities for personal and professional development through training programs.
