MSUAASF Range C: Learning Lab Coordinator
Job Description
Metro State University, Minnesota’s public, urban university, and four-time recipient of the Insight Into Diversity Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award is seeking to hire a Nursing Learning Lab Coordinator. This is a full-time position within the College of Nursing and Health Sciences.
The purpose of simulated clinical experiences and learning lab experiences is to prepare nurses to respond to the increasingly complex health care needs of individuals, families and communities. Innovative simulation and skill-based learning experiences are needed to enhance safe, effective, evidence-based practice for nursing students. In collaboration with faculty, the learning lab coordinator will be responsible for the establishment of centralized processes and procedures related to the nursing simulation/learning lab.
Responsibilities
- Support student skill development and create opportunities that enhance current use of simulation to support continuous improvement and growth of skills and student critical thinking.
- Create and develop opportunities to provide individual student remediation as requested by faculty.
- Assist in lab stations or simulations as requested by faculty.
- Assist in proctoring students as requested by faculty.
- Provide coaching and feedback to students during scheduled lab time as requested by faculty and during open lab time.
- Participate in simulation planning.
- Develop and implement processes for purchase, scheduling use of and maintenance of equipment and space in the simulation/learning laboratory.
- Develop and maintain a process for inventory of equipment and supplies.
- Participate in the hiring, coordination, supervision, and training of graduate assistants and/or student workers.
- Assist in the development and implementation of simulation/learning lab policies and procedures that use evidence-based practices in nursing simulation and/or skills education.
- Set up equipment prior to classes as needed/requested by faculty and take down and clean equipment/mannequins as needed post class.
Salary Range
$47,607.00-$93,342.00
This maximum salary budgeted for this position is $70,528.00
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accredited program (CCNE, NLN, ACEN)
- Licensed as a Registered Nurse in Minnesota or eligible for licensure in Minnesota (must obtain licensure prior to start date)
- Three years of experience working in an acute care nursing setting
- Ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff
- Evidence of organizational and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
- Evidence of effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate and communicate in a complex organization
- Experience with database management and general computer skills
- Demonstrated ability to perform professionally under stress and to implement conflict resolution
- Demonstrated ability to multi-task with frequent interruptions
- Current CPR certification
- Successfully pass the Minnesota background check
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in nursing simulation
- Experience working with video recording and projections equipment and human patient simulators
- Excellent communication skills
- Experience in the development of policy, process and procedures
- Demonstrated ability to work in an institution with a culturally, economically and linguistically diverse population
- Knowledge of data privacy laws as it pertains to student files, and other confidential or private information, and the ability to maintain confidentiality
Other Requirements
Clinical, hospital, and simulation type laboratory with regular exposure to dust, dirt, water, cleaning elements, clinical care supplies, and other conditions when storing, stocking, preparing, and using supplies. Regular exposure to moderate noise levels typical to laboratories and students. There is a possibility of evening and weekend duties.
Physical Requirements
Medium: Requires occasionally moving up to 50-pound articles and frequently moving objects such as heavy tools, mannequins, equipment or file boxes. This position may require movement to a significant degree on level or rough terrain and prolonged standing.

Work Shift (Hours / Days of work)
8 am-4:30 pm M-F
