Diablo Valley College is seeking an adjunct faculty member in Live Sound and Audio Technician to teach courses in live sound reinforcement, audio systems, and performance mixing. Instruction may include topics such as signal flow, microphones, signal processing, monitoring, troubleshooting, room acoustics, and mixing live performances in a variety of genres. Once approved and added to our system, adjunct faculty may be approved to do substitute teaching as well. All instructors must complete DVCs Becoming an Effective Online Instructor (BEOI) course or approved equivalent prior to teaching any online course or course with an online component. If candidates have not already completed the Becoming an Effective Online Instructor (BEOI) course or approved equivalent, they must take this course upon being hired.Description of Position
This position is for instruction in live sound and audio technician coursework. Candidates should be prepared to teach students to:- Describe the principles of a live sound system including signal flow, microphones, signal processing, and monitoring.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot common problems encountered in a live sound reinforcement environment.
- Discuss the principles of room acoustics and how sound interacts with various room environments.
- Perform and mix live performances in a variety of genres.

Adjunct Faculty duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:1. providing instruction in accordance with established curriculum, course outlines and class schedules;
2. creating and maintaining an environment which emphasizes learning, encourages free discussion of ideas and critical thinking;
3. evaluating progress of students concerning educational matters and grades student work;
4. meeting with students outside of class;
5. maintaining appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics;
6. maintaining current knowledge in the subject matter areas;
7. fulfilling professional responsibilities of a part-time/temporary faculty member;
8. maintaining accurate academic records;
9. performing other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualification-Education/Experience
Candidates can qualify under the Music discipline or the Commercial Music discipline. Minimum qualifications for these areas are as follows: Music Minimum Qualifications*Masters in music*

*Bachelors in music AND Masters in humanities*
***OR*** *the equivalent*
Commercial Music Minimum Qualifications
*Any Bachelors degree or higher AND two years of professional experience. Professional experience is required when the applicant possesses a masters degree.*

*Any Associates degree AND six years of professional experience.* *The professional experience required must be directly related to teaching assignment.*
Desirable Qualifications
- Professional experience in live sound reinforcement, audio systems operation, or concert/event sound.
- Demonstrated knowledge of signal flow, microphones, signal processing, stage monitoring, and mixing consoles.
- Experience diagnosing and troubleshooting common live sound and audio system issues.
- Understanding of room acoustics and the interaction of sound in different performance environments.
- Experience teaching or training students in commercial music, music technology, or live audio applications.
- Experience working with students from diverse academic, socioeconomic, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds, age groups, disabilities, gender identities, and sexual orientations.
- Dedication to an inclusive and equitable educational environment.
