Music Adjunct Instructor – Piano (TEMPORARY)
Special Instructions to Applicants
Diablo Valley College is seeking an adjunct faculty member for Piano to teach Music 251 (Intermediate Piano II), Music 252 (Piano Ensemble) and Music 255 (Piano Repertoire Master Class) courses, as well as Beginning Piano I and II, Intermediate Piano I and Applied Music Piano courses as needed. Public performances and other rehearsals are scheduled throughout the semester on days and times to be arranged. Once approved and added to our system, adjunct faculty may be approved to do substitute teaching as well.
All instructors must complete DVCs Becoming an Effective Online Instructor (BEOI) course or approved equivalent prior to teaching any online course or course with an online component. If candidates have not already completed the Becoming an Effective Online Instructor (BEOI) course or approved equivalent, they must take this course upon being hired.

Adjunct instructor classroom faculty pay rate is $77.87-$128.97 per hour (up to $151.16). Counseling, Librarian, Disabilities Specialist pay rate is $51.37-$87.77 per hour (up to $100.65)

Duties and Responsibilities
Adjunct Faculty duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- providing instruction in accordance with established curriculum, course outlines and class schedules;
- creating and maintaining an environment which emphasizes learning, encourages free discussion of ideas and critical thinking;
- evaluating progress of students concerning educational matters and grades student work;
- meeting with students outside of class;
- maintaining appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics;
- maintaining current knowledge in the subject matter areas;
- fulfilling professional responsibilities of a part-time/temporary faculty member;
- maintaining accurate academic records;
- performing other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualification-Education/Experience
For Music Discipline:
- Masters in music
- OR
- Bachelors in music AND Masters in humanities
- OR the equivalent
The disciplines listed in the minimum qualifications are determined by the statewide Academic Senate for California Community Colleges. A Doctoral degree (PhD) is considered to encompass a masters degree (MA or MS).

Desirable Qualifications
- Extensive experience teaching solo and class piano, and piano ensemble.
- Successful teaching experience in higher education and/or at the high school level
- Experience recruiting students to and guiding students through a community college, baccalaureate, or high school music program
- Experience working with students from diverse academic, socioeconomic, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds, age groups, disabilities, gender identities, and sexual orientations.
- Dedication to an inclusive and equitable educational environment.
