Position Summary

The Music Department at Slippery Rock University invites applications for a dynamic and experienced public-school music educator with expertise in instrumental pedagogy. We seek a teacher who values both traditional ensemble-based instruction and contemporary approaches such as Modern Band, music technology, informal learning, and culturally diverse practices. The successful candidate will bring practical classroom experience, creativity, and a commitment to preparing future music educators through innovative pedagogy, mentorship, and community engagement. We seek a colleague who values collaboration (especially between instrumental and vocal music), inclusivity, and musical diversity, and who will help our students thrive as reflective, adaptable, resourceful, and compassionate educators.

Slippery Rock University is by far one of the most successful and enviable institutions in the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education ( PASSHE ). With stable enrollments, strong programs, as well as a unionized and collaborative faculty, we enroll some 8600 students, and the Department of Music is one of the largest of those within the College of Liberal Arts. Minimum Qualifications

• Doctoral Degree in Music Education or closely-related field.
• Experience teaching music in a PK-12 public-school setting
• Experience teaching, training, and mentoring future music educators
• Commitment to the education of diverse populations
• Successful performance in an interview
• Successful Background checks

Preferred Qualifications

• PhD in Music Education
• Four or more years teaching music in PK-12 public schools
• Significant experience teaching, training, and mentoring future music educators

Special Instructions to Applicants

Official transcripts will be required prior to appointment. Recommended candidates will be required to complete criminal background check, including Act 34 Background Check and Act 151 (Child Abuse) Background Check and Federal Criminal ( FBI ) clearance prior to appointment.
