Responsibilities and details

  • The successful candidate will teach core and elective courses for undergraduate and graduate students, a total of three courses per semester. Specific courses will be determined based upon departmental need and the successful candidate’s specialties and interests. Non-core course topics will generally involve (but not necessarily be confined to) Western classical music.
  • Given these requirements, candidates with demonstrable expertise in any broad area of common practice classical music are encouraged to apply, particularly those with the following areas of specialty: opera from the eighteenth century to the present, especially that of Italy or Germany; other staged artforms and related fields, such as dance, musical theater, and dramaturgy; performance studies; and new critical perspectives in twenty-first-century musicology.
  • In addition to teaching duties, the successful candidate will be expected to stay up-to-date with current scholarship, participate in department meetings as well as departmental and school-wide committees, hold regular office hours, and be available to meet with students as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Candidates should have in hand the Ph.D. in Musicology or a related field prior to starting employment.
  • Demonstrated success in college-level teaching.

Preferred Additional Qualifications

  • A background in performance or composition, or proficiency with a musical instrument, including voice, is helpful.

Application requirements

Qualified candidates should submit:

  • A letter of interest that includes a brief discussion of teaching experience, current scholarship, and approaches to teaching and research.
  • Resume or curriculum vitae
  • One-page statement of teaching philosophy

All materials should be received by December 5, 2025. Late applications may be considered until the position is filled. The interview process will include meeting(s) with the hiring committee, followed by a teaching demonstration and research presentation.
