Position Summary
The Network Administrator focuses on the installation, configuration, maintenance, monitoring, and troubleshooting of the University's cable plant and network hardware such as switches, wireless access points, VoIP phones, and other similar devices. Works closely with the Technology Infrastructure team, and collaborates on a daily basis with other IT members and departments. Participation on projects is focused on smoothing the transition of projects from development staff to production staff by performing operations activities within the project life-cycle.
Essential Duties
- Installs, cables, and supports LANs, WANs, network segments, Internet, and intranet systems.
- Installs, configures, maintains, monitors, and troubleshoots network hardware such as switches, wireless access points, VoIP phones, and other similar devices.
- Monitor networks to ensure security and availability to specific users.
- Maintains clean and organized network closets.
- Analyzes and isolates issues.
- Evaluates and modifies system's performance.
- Maintains integrity of the network, server deployment, and security.
- Ensures network connectivity throughout a company's LAN/WAN infrastructure is on par with technical considerations.
- Establishes network by evaluating network performance issues including availability, utilization, throughput and latency; plans and executes the selection, installation, configuration, and testing of equipment; defines network policies and procedures;
- Secures network by developing network access, monitoring, control, and evaluation; maintains documentation.
- Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintains personal networks; participates in professional organizations.
Secondary Responsibilities
- Perform periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning.
- Maintains network performance by performing network monitoring and analysis, and performance tuning; troubleshooting network problems; escalates problems to vendor.
- Assists with the design and deployment of networks.
- Participate in disaster recovery planning.
- Work with other team members on designated systems and projects.
- All other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Technology Infrastructure.

Required Qualifications
- High School diploma.
- 2 years of experience within the networking field, or an equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.
- Experience implementing, administering, and troubleshooting network infrastructure devices such as switches, controllers, and wireless access points.
- Experience cabling with category 5E/6/6A cable.
- Working knowledge of basic LAN protocols including TCP/IP.
- Ability to manage resources and maintain inventories.
- Ability to think, reason, and make sound judgment.
- Knowledge of and commitment to the mission of La Salle University.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field plus 2 years of experience within the networking field, or an equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.
- Network certifications.
- Experience with system administration.
Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours
- Must be sufficiently agile to move about in tight or awkward spaces including sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, climbing, working on ladders, and working at heights.
- Responsibilities include frequently moving equipment and/or supplies weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Must be available outside of business hours to respond to network issues and technical problems.
