Position Information
Under the direction of the Associate Director of Network Engineering and Operations, the Network Engineering Manager provides leadership, technical oversight, planning, and coordination of data and voice projects. The Manager will be involved in researching and providing strategic direction on using new technology and products. The incumbent will develop and maintain a hardware lifecycle replacement strategy with the Associate Director. The Manager will provide mentoring, professional development, and career advancement opportunities to direct reports and ensure that direct reports are contributing and performing effectively. Finally, the incumbent will oversee the architecture of next-generation network design.

Please Note: This position is classified as HYBRID. The on-site/off-site schedule will be determined in collaboration with the supervisor and based on the operational needs of Information Technology Solutions.

The full salary range for the Network Engineering Manager is $96,695.28 to $184,098.96 annually. However, the expected pay scale for this position is UP TO $141,750 annually. UCR bases salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs.

Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position. Currently, UCR is unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa for staff.

As a university employee, you will be required to comply with all applicable University policies and/or collective bargaining agreements, as may be amended from time to time. Federal, state, or local government directives may impose additional requirements.

Requirement Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience with an emphasis in computer science, data processing, computer information systems, or in a related field. Required

Requirement Must possess or obtain a Valid CA Driver's License in accordance with the California Department of Motor Vehicles in order to drive either University-owned vehicle or personal vehicle to various sites on UCR's general campus as well as off campus sites (e.g. Palm Desert campus). Required

Requirement Experience working in IT in a higher education environment. Preferred Previous experience managing a logically complex network environment of a large physical scale. Preferred 6 - 10 years of related experience. Required Past experience building and maintaining teams, including active participation in the hiring processes and writing performance reviews Preferred Previous supervisory/managerial experience. Preferred Experience presenting complex technical material Preferred

Minimum Requirements
Special Condition Requirement Must pass a background check. Required Occasional travel for university related business meetings, conferences and/or professional development. Required Must possess or obtain a Valid CA Driver License in accordance with the California Department of Motor Vehicles, if driving a university/personal vehicle for university related business. Required Travel Outside of Normal Business Hours Required Must actively participate in an on-call rotation supporting a 24X7 IT operation. Required

Preferred Qualifications
Thorough knowledge and experience working with network management systems.
In-depth, advanced understanding of various network hardware platforms, network related protocols and software.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Must be able to communicate complex information in a clear and concise manner.
Requires full knowledge of own area of functional responsibility.
Advanced knowledge of the practices and techniques of the voice and data field and the ability to determine a course of action based on guidelines.
Requires technical knowledge and skills associated with voice and data network systems.
Demonstrated skill in managing technical staff.
Advanced knowledge of professional communications and network systems in the completion of diverse assignments.
Requires the ability to gather, organize, and prioritize work assignments, with limited guidance.

Additional Information
Demonstrated skill in developing and presenting business cases for strategic infrastructure changes and improvements to include hardware lifecycle replacement as well as evaluating projects, establishing priorities and communicating timelines for deployment of solutions.

Proven skillset in motivating and leading staff and providing direction for their professional growth and development in order to meet their career objectives.

Demonstrated skill in developing long-range plans and budgets for Network future state and proven skills in the management of multiple and overlapping short and long term projects.
