Nuclear Medicine Physicist

The University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging invites applications for a Nuclear Medicine Physicist to join our nationally recognized academic radiology department with a collaborative, innovative environment and a strong commitment to advancing precision imaging and therapy. We seek an outstanding medical physicist with expertise in nuclear medicine instrumentation, scanner qualification, quality assurance, and dosimetry for radionuclide and radioligand therapies. The successful candidate will be appointed at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor in the In Residence, Clinical X or Adjunct series, commensurate with qualifications and interests.

This faculty member will play a key role in supporting and advancing UCSF's expanding nuclear medicine and theranostics programs. Responsibilities include annual qualification and acceptance testing of SPECT/CT and PET/CT systems, oversight of nuclear medicine quality assurance programs, dose calibrator calibration, and the development and optimization of imaging and therapy protocols. The physicist will work closely with UCSF Health technologists to address QA issues and ensure clinical excellence across the enterprise.

The position offers significant opportunity for clinical and translational research collaboration, particularly in the area of dosimetry for radioligand therapy. The faculty physicist will partner with clinical research coordinators to support scanner qualification for clinical trials and collaborate with radiologists, physicists, basic scientists, and clinical investigators across multiple disciplines. Participation in departmental and campus-wide radiation safety and governance committees is expected.

As an imaging science faculty member, the candidate will be expected to develop an independently funded research program aligned with their expertise and contribute to the department's robust educational mission through teaching of residents, fellows, medical students, and graduate students.

Required qualification includes a PhD, or equivalent degree, in Medical Physics, Physics, Radiation Biology, or Related Field. Must be eligible for, or have completed, certification in Nuclear Medicine Physics by the American Board of Radiology or equivalent. The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment. See Table 5. The minimum base salary range for this position is $131,200-$344,400. This position includes membership in the health sciences compensation plan which provides for eligibility for additional compensation.
