General Information:

James Madison University (JMU) School of Nursing (SON) invites applications for a 12-month, full-time appointment beginning August 1, 2026. This is an AP Faculty position with the rank of Instructor. The School of Nursing offers CCNE-accredited Baccalaureate, Master's, and Doctor of Nursing Practice programs. The SON seeks a motivated individual to join a student-centered team dedicated to multifaceted support, academic guidance, collaboration, and ongoing growth.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides academic advising to prospective and current nursing students, supporting their academic planning, progress, and success through individualized guidance, communication, and connection to resources.
  • Advises prospective and current nursing students on academic planning, progress, and success.
  • Supports orientation, recruitment, and student success initiatives across the School of Nursing and university.
  • Serves as a resource for faculty, staff, and families while fostering community and student engagement.
  • Maintains accurate records, utilizes advising technology, and contributes to professional development and campus-wide advising efforts.

Qualifications:

Required
Master's degree.
Demonstrated commitment to contributing to a supportive, welcoming environment.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and ability to relate meaningfully with undergraduates.
Strong attention to detail combined with appreciation for the big picture.
Ability to work independently, collaboratively, and under supervision.
Excellent time management, organizational and problem-solving skills.
Experience advising Nursing students or a related field.

Preferred
Academic advising experience working directly with undergraduates.
Familiarity with national trends and best practices in academic advising profession and higher education.
Ability to multitask and navigate integrated student information systems in a dynamic environment.
Experience with learning, interpreting, and articulating complex academic requirements, policies, and procedures.
