POSITION: Nursing Simulation Specialist/Professor
Description of Duties:
This position is responsible for supporting simulation-based learning and nursing education through simulation scenario development, technical execution, and assigned instructional responsibilities within the Nursing Program. Working under the direction of the Nursing Simulation & Lab Coordinator, this role focuses on designing and modifying simulation scenarios, programming and operating simulators, enhancing realism, and providing lab and simulation-based instruction as assigned in collaboration with the nursing faculty.
Simulation Scenario Design & Development: Develop, modify, and revise nursing simulation scenarios based on course objectives, faculty input, and direction from the Simulation & Lab Coordinator. Assist faculty with translating clinical content into simulation-based learning experiences that support clinical reasoning, critical thinking, and skills development. Support simulation activities through appropriate pre-briefing preparation, scenario operation, and post-simulation processes, consistent with best practices in healthcare simulation. Revise scenarios using learner and faculty feedback following simulation activities. Maintain organized scenario documentation and version control according to program guidelines.
Simulation Execution & Technical Support: Program, operate, and support low-, mid-, and high-fidelity simulators during scheduled simulation activities. Troubleshoot technical issues and communicate unresolved concerns to the Simulation & Lab Coordinator. Prepare and reset simulation spaces before and after sessions, following established lab procedures.
Moulage & Learning Environment Realism: Design and apply moulage, props, and environmental enhancements that support simulation objectives. Adjust realism elements to align with learner experience level and instructional goals. Maintain and organized moulage materials and simulation props for ongoing instructional use.
Teaching & Instructional Responsibilities: Serve as instructional faculty for assigned nursing labs or simulation-based learning experiences. Provide lab and simulation instruction in accordance with approved course syllabi and curriculum plans. Facilitate student learning through guided simulation participation and structured instructional activities. Participate in simulation debriefings using established frameworks and Nursing Program guidelines. Evaluate student performance as assigned using approved tools, rubrics, and grading criteria. Maintain accurate instructional and academic records in compliance with Nursing Program and institutional policies. Collaborate with nursing faculty during assigned instructional and simulation activities. Communicate scenario performance observations and improvement recommendations to the Simulation & Lab Coordinator. Support a psychologically safe, student-centered learning environment. Maintain confidentiality and professionalism consistent with nursing, educational, and institutional standards. Maintain awareness of best practices in nursing simulation, education, and instructional technology.
Minimum Qualifications:
Current, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license eligible to practice in Oklahoma. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution of higher learning and enrolled in a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program (must complete at least 6 credit hours per year). Minimum of three (3) years of recent clinical nursing experience as a registered nurse. Excellent communication, organizational, interpersonal, and technical skills. Light lifting up to 10 lbs. and light carrying up to 10 lbs. Ability to reach above the shoulder. Periods of time spent sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, bending, and stooping.
Desired Qualifications:
Master of Science in Nursing (MSN). Prior teaching experience in nursing education. Experience developing or implementing simulation scenarios. Familiarity with INACSL Healthcare Simulation Standards of Best Practice. Certification or interest in pursuing CHSE or CHSOS.
