Nursing Student Success Coach
The Nursing Student Success Coach plays a critical role in promoting nursing student success, retention, and NCLEX readiness through proactive academic support, individualized coaching, and coordination with faculty and student services. This position supports early identification, intervention, and remediation of academic or non-academic barriers that may impact progression. The Student Success Coach works collaboratively with faculty and staff to create a culture of student-centered support. This position will work closely with the LPN-ADN Transition Program among other nursing programs.
Essential Duties:
- Provide individualized coaching and academic support to students struggling with nursing concepts, coursework, and clinical preparation.
- Assist students with identifying effective study skills, time management strategies, and methods to reduce test anxiety.
- Guide students in setting realistic academic and professional goals while developing actionable plans for improvement.
- Prepare students for success on the NCLEX-RN, including guidance on interpreting the NCLEX test plan, breaking down test questions, and utilizing evidence-based test-taking strategies.
- Monitor student academic progress and conduct ongoing follow-up to adjust support strategies as needed.
- Identify and address real or perceived academic, financial, or personal barriers that may impact student performance.
- Serve as a knowledgeable liaison, connecting students to campus resources including Tutoring, Counseling Services, Disability Services, Financial Aid, and other support services.
- Collaborate with faculty to develop and implement early-alert interventions and to enhance instructional support strategies.
- Design and deliver workshops on academic success topics such as test-taking skills, study habits, time management, and NCLEX preparation.
- Assist faculty and program director to track and analyze student trends in academic performance, persistence, and licensure pass rates.
- Motivate students to achieve the standards set by the nursing program both academically and professionally.
- Maintain accurate and timely records of student interactions in the appropriate software/platforms.
- Participate in program events and departmental initiatives, including orientation, open house, graduation, and pinning ceremonies.
- Demonstrate content expertise, staying current in student support through professional development, conferences, or certifications.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support student success, departmental goals, and College needs.

- Participate in professional development activities identified by the College and those required to maintain any applicable licensure, certification, or credentials for assigned responsibilities.

- Participate in community service activities supported by the College.
- Demonstrate a commitment to the community college "open door" philosophy and the comprehensive community college concept.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong human relations/interpersonal skills to interact positively/effectively with diverse populations.
- Ability to develop rapport and build trust with students while maintaining professional boundaries.
- Proficiency in coaching and mentoring techniques, including active listening, goal setting, and motivational interviewing.
- Knowledge of academic support practices and nursing program requirements.
- Skilled in identifying and responding to both academic and personal barriers to student success.
- Ability to handle confidential matters with discretion and perform with a high level of personal and professional integrity and ethics.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, including the ability to prioritize and multitask.
- Ability to use technology and perform work duties using relevant software.
- Excellent communication skills (listening, speaking, writing).
- Ability to work evening/weekend hours to meet the needs of students or the College when necessary.
- Knowledge of the mission and purpose of the NC Community College System.
