Occupational Health Physician
Michigan Medicine's Department of Internal Medicine is seeking an Occupational Health Physician. The Occupational Health Physician is responsible for providing comprehensive medical care to employees concerning work-related injuries and illnesses, promoting workplace health and safety, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. This role emphasizes prevention, diagnosis, and management of occupational injuries and diseases, and collaborates with Human Resources, Safety Management Services, Environment, Health and Safety, and other departments to maintain a healthy workforce.
The position will be at the rank of Clinical Instructor or higher, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Successful candidates will receive a salary commensurate with the individual's training. Clinical Care
- Evaluate, diagnose, and treat work-related injuries, exposures, and illnesses for university personnel.
- Conduct return-to-work medical evaluations.
- Make fitness-for-duty and work restriction determinations.
- Provide consultation in complex occupational health cases, collaborating closely with Human Resources, Work Connections, Environment, Health & Safety (EHS), Safety Management Services (SMS).
Regulatory and Program Support
- Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements (OSHA, MIOSHA, etc.).
- Participate in university-wide occupational health programs, such as TB screening, vaccinations, and respiratory protection.
- Assist in occupational health surveillance, medical record maintenance, and mandatory reporting.
Professional Development
- Stay current on occupational medicine best practices and legal requirements.
Requirements
- MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school.
- Active and unrestricted medical license in the State of Michigan or eligibility to obtain one prior to start.
- Board certified or board eligible in Occupational Medicine.
- DOT certification.
- Knowledge of OSHA, MIOSHA, and other relevant employment health laws and regulations.
