Oculoplastic and Reconstructive Surgical Ophthalmologist

The University of Washington’s Department of Ophthalmology is currently recruiting for a full-time physician for an ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive surgeon. This position will be based at UW Medicine locations including the VA. This position is without tenure (WOT) due to funding and is a multi-year appointment with a 12-month service (July 1-June 30). Anticipated start date is Spring 2026.

This appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, without tenure (WOT) due to source of funding. This position is a multi-yearappointment with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off and will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

The 1.0 FTE base salary for this position will be Assistant Professor MD (WOT) $20,417 to $21,250 per month ($245,004-$255,000 annually) commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a US Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.

Candidates will be expected to provide oculoplastic and reconstructive ophthalmology care, train residents and fellows, perform surgery, and treat consult and emergency patients at the University of Washington Affiliated Hospitals and the Veterans’ Affairs Puget Sound Health Care System. Furthering the state-of-the-art through rigorous research is an important part of this position, and protected time for academic studies in the field will be provided.

University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research and service. Successful candidates will be expected to engage in substantial teaching and scholarly research in academic ophthalmology.

The successful candidate is expected to support the Department of Ophthalmology’s commitment to working with diverse community populations.

Qualifications

Candidates must hold an MD degree (or foreign equivalent) and have completed a minimum two-year fellowship in ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive surgery and demonstrated academic achievement through independent research and scholarly publications. Applicants must be Board-certified or eligible and eligible for licensure in the State of Washington.   The appointment will be made at the Assistant Professor level. In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all 3 steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
