Job Summary:
The Department of Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Colorado is seeking a board certified/board eligible Orthopedic Surgeon with a sub-specialty in Hand Surgery. All candidates must have completed an ACGME accredited, one-year hand surgery fellowship at the time of commencing this position and have an interest in developing a clinical practice with a focus on the hand and upper extremity. This position is based primarily at the University of Colorado affiliated hospitals in the Boulder / Longmont / Long's Peak area and at the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, Colorado. The practice will involve a combination of community-based practice and tertiary care referrals; qualified candidates will be expected to participate in the core academic hand surgery group, participating in teaching, research, and mentorship opportunities.
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical responsibilities include actively participating in continued development of the Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery practice and academic program at the University of Colorado with a focus on clinical practice in the North Denver Region (Longmont, Long's Peak, Boulder).
- Obtaining a detailed history and performing physical examinations on assigned patients; assessing and treating acute/chronic medical problems and providing direct patient care to a specified patient population.
- Writing prescriptions for medications, PT, OT, imaging studies, and DME as needed.
- Completing FMLA and other forms and school notes as needed.
- Providing pre-op, intra-op and post-op care; writing appropriate orders, including those for narcotics and other scheduled drugs. Condition-specific casting, splinting, and dressing as required.
- Performing emergency lifesaving procedures in cases such as cardiac arrest, respiratory arrest, massive hemorrhage, or similar emergencies. Providing fracture reductions in ER or office as needed.
- Providing inpatient care, consultation and coverage in the emergency room.
- Participating in hand surgery / microsurgical call at a Level 1 Trauma Center and / or general orthopedic surgery call at a community-based hospital.
- Coordinating the activities of patient care and support staff within the clinic. Working with the team to ensure smooth operation of the clinic.
- Writing progress notes on patients' office and hospital charts indicating patient status and treatment procedures performed; maintaining other records as required.
- Providing health education to patients and families; may train and supervise medical students, residents, fellows, mid-level students and other health professional students engaged in specific clinical activities.
- Practicing safety, environmental, and/or infection control methods.
- Maintaining current eligibility for and progress towards Orthopedic Surgery and Hand Surgery board certifications
Work Location: Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in the Boulder / Longmont area of CO.

Minimum Qualifications:
Assistant Professor
- Board certified/board eligible with sub-specialty training in hand surgery
- Completion of a five-year residency and a one-year hand fellowship
Associate Professor
- Board certified/board eligible with sub-specialty training in hand surgery
- Completion of a five-year residency and a one-year hand fellowship
- 6 years' experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified
Preferred Qualifications:
- Work experience commensurate with title (Assistant or Associate Professor)
- Strong teaching experience
- Interest in clinical and / or basic scientific research
- Interest in the management of conditions affecting the upper limb
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to multi-task
- Willingness to collaborate in a group clinical setting
- Strong interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively to build a sustainable clinical practice

HIRING RANGE:
Assistant Professor: $440,000 - $500,000
Associate Professor: $500,000 - $570,000
