Job Description

The Ohio University Department of Social and Public Health (DSPH) invites applications for a full-time open-rank clinical faculty position, which includes serving as Program Coordinator of the undergraduate Environmental Health Science program. We are seeking a collaborative and innovative educator-practitioner who is passionate about advancing the field of Environmental Health (EH) and/or Occupational Health and Safety (OHS).

This is a 9-month, non-tenure-track appointment with potential for promotion through the clinical faculty ranks.

Clinical faculty in the College of Health Sciences and Professions (CHSP) hold discipline-specific credentials, may maintain active professional practice in their disciplines, mentor students in applied or clinical settings, and may engage in service, administrative roles, and research. Depending on the qualifications and interests of the candidate, this position may be negotiated as part-time to allow continued practice.

The distribution of teaching, administrative, research, and/or clinical responsibilities will be negotiated with the Department Chair at the time of hire and reviewed annually to align with departmental needs.

The EH program is accredited by the National Environmental Health Science and Protection Accreditation Council (EHAC) and a portion of this position will include maintaining EHAC accreditation and serving as Program Coordinator for the major.

Responsibilities of the position include:

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses, including those with experiential and applied learning components;
  • Mentoring undergraduate students;
  • Serve as Program Coordinator for the nationally accredited EH program; and
  • Engaging in service and/or practice within the EH or OHS profession.

Minimum Qualifications

  • REHS, CIH, or other recognized credentials in environmental or occupational health.
  • Master's degree in environmental health, occupational safety and health or other closely related discipline.
  • Experience teaching undergraduate students in person and/or online.
  • Experience in professional EH and/or OHS practice.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience teaching graduate or professional students in an online environment.
  • Involvement in professional EH or OHS organizations (e.g. NEHA, AIHA, etc)
  • Experience with the Canvas Learning Management System.
  • Familiarity with or experience working with EHAC accreditation standards.
