The Department of Radiology and Imaging at the Medical College of Georgia (MCG) at Augusta University, Georgia's premier health sciences university, is recruiting a full-time faculty member at the rank of Instructor, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor, as a Musculoskeletal Radiologist. This is a great opportunity to join a department in the midst of expansion, including growing our Georgia Cancer Center and breaking ground on our 2nd hospital site (in Columbia County). The successful candidate will have an interest in teaching medical students as well as radiology residents. Responsibilities will include clinical service and teaching, with opportunities for clinical research as well, in a busy tertiary and quaternary care center with ACGME accredited residency programs. Academic time is provided, and new research projects are encouraged. This position does not meet the requirements to be on a tenure track.

Responsibilities

Clinical Service - 25%
Interpret MSK imaging studies: - Perform image-guided MSK procedures
Manage trauma MSK imaging - Provide consultation with orthopedic surgery, sports medicine, rheumatology, oncology (bone & soft tissue), physical medicine & rehabilitation. - Assess bone tumors / sarcoma imaging; differentiate benign vs malignant lesions; tumor staging, follow-ups. - Oversee protocoling of MSK imaging studies - Participate in MSK quality control
Cover on-call or after hours as needed

Teaching & Education - 25%
Teach medical students, diagnostic radiology: case interpretation, procedural skills, image anatomy and pathology. Supervise MSK rotations: provide feedback, review resident reads, train them on procedures. - Deliver didactic lectures, case conferences, journal clubs related to MSK topics. - Participate in curriculum development for MSK imaging; define learning objectives and competencies. - Mentor trainees in research or scholarly projects (case studies, imaging-pathology correlation, outcome studies).

Research & Scholarly Activity - 25%
Initiate or participate in research projects. Publish in peer-reviewed journals; present at regional/national/international meetings. Potential collaboration in multi-disciplinary research

Service & Administration - 25%
Participate in multidisciplinary conferences: orthopedic tumor boards, sports medicine conferences, rheumatology rounds, pathology correlation, etc. Serve on departmental committees (protocol selection, imaging safety, equipment acquisition, quality assurance, scheduling). Assist in outreach or clinical service expansion

Required Qualifications

MD, DO or equivalent degree with completion of an ACGME-accredited Diagnostic Radiology residency. Fellowship training in Musculoskeletal Radiology. Board certification or eligibility in Diagnostic Radiology. Eligible for medical licensure in the state of Georgia.

Instructor- A medical professional in training who holds a medical degree and has completed residency training who will contribute to teaching, student support, and the clinical mission of the institution.

Assistant Professor- Early level career as a faculty member with appropriate post graduate training.

Associate Professor- Mid level career faculty member with at least five years at rank of Assistant Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.

Professor- Senior level career faculty member with at least five years at the rank of Associate Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.

Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:

  • Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)'s requirements for institutional accreditation;
  • Evidence of ability as a teacher;
  • Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;
  • Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,
  • Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.

Shift/Salary/Benefits

This position is fiscal year based and works year-round.

The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0 and considered full-time.

Instructor - Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.

Assistant Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.

Associate Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.

Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.

The Medical College of Georgia (MCG) is one of the nation's largest medical schools by class size, with 304 students per class. The MCG educational experience is anchored by the main campus in Augusta, with regional clinical campuses for third- and fourth-year students across the state, and two four-year campuses located in Athens (in partnership with the University of Georgia) and in Savannah (in partnership with Georgia Southern University).
