THE DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICAL THERAPY in the Pat Capps Covey College of Allied Health Professions at the University of South Alabama invites applications for a 12-month, full-time faculty position in the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) Program. The rank of position is open. Rank will be determined based on qualifications and experience.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS include eligibility for physical therapy licensure in Alabama and an academic doctoral degree (Ph.D., Ed.D. or D.Sc.) in physical therapy or a related field at the time of appointment. Rank will be commensurate with the applicant’s credentials and experience in demonstrating a consistent and ongoing record of scholarship. Candidates at the assistant level should exhibit strong potential for engaging in high-quality research and the ability to teach effectively to graduate students. Candidates at the associate level should have a more established record of scholarly productivity and demonstrate the capacity to teach and mentor DPT students. Candidates at the full level must demonstrate a well-established national and/or international record of research productivity, including a documented history of grant funding (e.g., intramural, foundation, and/or federal awards). In addition, the full level should exhibit the capacity to further strengthen the scholarly reputation of the DPT program.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Board certification in a clinical specialty with two or more years of didactic teaching experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES of the position include teaching graduate courses in physical therapy within the candidate’s area of expertise; conducting, publishing, and presenting scholarly work; pursuing extramural funding; advising and mentoring students; contributing to student recruitment initiatives; collaborating with faculty; participating in curriculum development and program/curriculum assessment; and providing service to the Department, University, and community. The successful candidate will demonstrate effective teaching practices, create experiential learning opportunities, and actively engage in program-related student and community activities.

THE DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICAL THERAPY at the University of South Alabama, with a 50-year history, offers a highly respected, accredited entry-level DPT program. The curriculum is delivered over eight consecutive semesters and incorporates innovative teaching strategies such as patient simulation and community-based service learning, to enhance student engagement and support clinical reasoning. Team teaching ensures instruction by faculty with appropriate content expertise. Innovative pedagogy and faculty development are supported by extensive university resources, including the Innovation in Learning Center and the Office of Community Engagement. The Department is located in the Health Sciences Building, in close proximity to other units within the College of Allied Health Professions, as well as the Colleges of Nursing, College of Medicine and the Biomedical Library. This setting provides robust opportunities for interdisciplinary research, teaching, and clinical collaboration across the university and within the expanding USA Health hospitals and clinics. The Department also operates an on-site faculty practice clinic offering opportunities for outpatient clinical practice.
