Open Rank Professor of Practice, Business Communication

The University of Texas at San Antonio Carlos Alvarez College of Business invites applications for up to two full-time, fixed term, open rank Professor of Practice positions focused on business communication. These positions will be appointed in the Department of Management, but will primarily work with our Office of Undergraduate Studies to deliver business communication courses required of all students pursuing an undergraduate degree in business.

College of Business

The Carlos Alvarez College of Business, founded in 1969 and named in 2021, is fully accredited by AACSB International, the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (business and accounting).

The Alvarez College of Business (ACOB) boasts six departments that collectively administer 13 undergraduate programs, 6 graduate programs, 4 PhD programs, 4 certificate programs, and executive education programs. The college supports its students with 115 full-time faculty and maintains a robust student population with a total enrollment of over 5,000 students across all academic levels. The undergraduate program forms the largest segment with over 4,000 students, while the graduate programs host more than 750 students, and about 30 students are pursuing doctoral degrees.

Department of Management

The Department of Management in the Carlos Alvarez College of Business at the University of Texas at San Antonio consists of 40 tenure/tenure track and fixed-term-track faculty members and offers undergraduate degrees in management and human resources and a doctoral degree in management and organization studies. Our faculty and students have been recognized regionally, nationally, and internationally for excellence in both research and teaching.

Position Summary

The Carlos Alvarez College of Business at The University of Texas at San Antonio (UT San Antonio) seeks up to two (2) faculty positions for appointment of Open Rank Professor of Practice to specialize in teaching business communication. This appointment is a full-time fixed-term track faculty and will begin in Fall 2026.

  • The teaching load for this position includes teaching courses totaling 24 credit hours per year. That load may be reduced on a case-by-case basis with time reassigned for course development, course coordination or other projects.
  • Teach undergraduate courses in business communication, both on campus and online, as assigned. The focus for these positions will be teaching a required business communication course for students pursuing business degrees. Multiple sections of the same course will be counted separately toward the teaching requirement.
  • Revise and develop course materials and contribute to curriculum design, as assigned.
  • Participate in the course development in business communication at the undergraduate level.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to identify and address student and program needs, as assigned.
  • Maintain connections with the business community to ensure course material is timely and relevant.

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in business communication or a related field.
  • Previous experience teaching undergraduate business or professional communication at an institution of higher education.
  • This position requires the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UT San Antonio and its infrastructure.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in business, communication, higher education, or a related field.
  • Experience designing and delivering courses that feature active or experiential learning, or other evidence-based pedagogy.
  • Evidence of integrating technology into instruction, online teaching, or using other emerging technologies.
  • Connections to the business community, to include consulting activities, participation on boards, membership in professional/civic organizations, or professional certifications.
  • Experience with course and/or curriculum design.
