Open Rank without Tenure (WOT) – Anatomic Pathology Director, DLMP, SCH
The University of Washington Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology has one (1) full-time academic position available at the rank of Open Rank without tenure (WOT) by reason of funding, with clinical duties at Seattle Children's Hospital.
The Department of Laboratories at Seattle Children’s Hospital is seeking a new trained Director of Anatomic Pathology who is board-certified in pediatric pathology and demonstrates a track record of accomplishments to join and lead our cohesive group of anatomic pathologists to care for children in the Pacific Northwest and beyond. Our Department has a decades long tradition of providing patient-focused services and engaging in collaborative research and training of house staff and medical students.
You will join a full-service combined anatomic/clinical pathology team comprised of 9 anatomic pathology and 16 clinical pathology faculty working with over 200 technical staff to collectively perform over three million clinical tests annually, including in specialty areas such as molecular microbiology, next-gen sequencing, flow cytometry, and biochemical genetics. The anatomic pathology service accessions ~10,000 specimens annually including 7,000 surgical specimens, 2,000 cytology specimens, 700 bone marrow samples, 750 placental/perinatal specimens, and 120 autopsies including referred fetal/perinatal cases.
The Director of Anatomic Pathology will collaborate with and report to the Chief of the Department of Laboratories at Seattle Children’s to guide and grow the service and to adapt to the changing field of anatomic pathology including in areas such as digital/computational pathology and further integration of molecular diagnostics. Contribute to the hospital’s academic mission.
Assistant Professors WOT are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Associate and Full Professors WOT hold indefinite appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. This is a full-time 12-month (July 1-June 30) service position and will remain open until filled with an anticipated start date of August 1, 2025, or later.
This position is paid directly by Seattle Children's Hospital and receives no UW compensation. Please refer to Seattle Children's Hospital for information about compensation for this position.

The successful candidate must have an MD (or foreign equivalent). Must qualify for a license to practice medicine in Washington State. In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H1-B visa, graduates of foreign (non-US) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the US Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
