Location:London, Hybrid
Salary:£54,617 to £60,901 per annum (pro-rata), inclusive of London Allowance.
Hours:Full Time, Part Time
Contract Type:Fixed-Term/Contract
Placed On:12th February 2026

About the Role

This is an exciting role for a Senior Trial Manager or an existing portfolio lead to join The Cancer Research UK Cancer Prevention Trials Unit (CPTU) at Queen Mary University of London.

The CPTU specialises in the design and delivery of large-scale trials in cancer screening, prevention and early diagnosis. Our research typically involves complex, multi-centre studies with large and diverse populations, often delivered through decentralised models.

The Operations Manager (Trial Management) is a pivotal new role that will provide senior leadership across a diverse portfolio of cancer prevention and early detection trials within the CPTU. You will oversee the operational delivery of complex, multi‑site studies, ensuring compliance with regulatory frameworks, adherence to Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and alignment with the Unit’s strategic priorities.

About You

We are looking for an experienced and proactive individual with experience of overseeing a portfolio of trial and significant trials project management experience. As a senior member of the operational team, you will:

  • Drive efficiency and quality in trial delivery through robust planning, resource allocation, and process improvement.
  • Act as a senior point of support and escalation point for trial managers, investigators, and external partners, resolving operational challenges and mitigating risks.
  • Represent the Unit at high-level meetings with sponsors, funders, and governance bodies, influencing decisions and developing collaborative relationships.

About the School/Department/Institute/Project

The Wolfson Institute of Population Health (WIPH) is an exciting and dynamic environment, home to 450 staff, 100 PhD students and 500 postgraduate taught students. It harnesses expertise across a wide range of population-based research and education activities and aims to be an internationally recognised centre of excellence in population health, primary care and preventive medicine. The Institute is organised into six separate research centres which, though complementary and following the Institute strategic plan, also have Centre-specific objectives and requirements.

The Centre for Cancer Screening, Prevention and Early Diagnosis (CCSPED) forms part of the WIPH and brings together globally leading researchers focusing on cancer prevention, screening and detection and early diagnosis across two units. CCSPED also hosts the cross-cutting Cancer Behavioural Science group and the CRUK-funded Cancer Prevention Trials Unit (CPTU, Director, Sasieni).

Benefits

We offer competitive salaries, access to a generous pension scheme, 30 days’ leave per annum (pro-rata for part-time/fixed-term), a season ticket loan scheme and access to a comprehensive range of personal and professional development opportunities. In addition, we offer a range of work life balance and family friendly, inclusive employment policies, campus facilities and flexible working arrangements.

The post is based at the Whitechapel Campus in London/Hybrid. It is 0.8-1.0, fixed term appointment for 24 months (in the first instance), with an expected start date of as soon as possible. The starting salary will be Grade 6, in the range of £54,617-60,901 per annum (pro-rata), inclusive of London Allowance.
