Organismal Biology Instructional Support Technician III
Job Summary
The Department of Biological Sciences is seeking a highly skilled and independent Organismal Biology Instructional Support Technician III to support instructional activities in Organismal Biology. In this role, the technician will ensure that laboratory courses are fully equipped and operate smoothly by preparing materials, maintaining equipment, and providing critical support to faculty and students in lab environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up, maintain, and dismantle laboratory materials and equipment
- Prepare and manage live biological specimens for instructional use
- Maintain, calibrate, and repair lab and audiovisual equipment
- Procure supplies and manage inventory for biology courses
- Support museum collections and maintain specimen databases
- Collaborate with faculty to develop and improve lab materials and procedures
- Ensure lab safety, organization, and compliance with EH&S standards
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- May be required to lift up to 40 pounds and work on multiple floors of a seven-story building
- May be required to move materials between buildings on campus
- Must be able to work with a variety of chemicals and organisms normally found in a biology laboratory, including hazardous chemicals, microbes, vertebrate animals, and other organisms
- May be required to climb ladders
- May be required to attend conference and training sessions at locations within the San Francisco Bay Area
- May occasionally be required to travel to outside vendors or suppliers
- Typical office and biology lab environment
- Mostly indoor lab environment with windows
- Laboratory with equipment noise
- Office area with frequent interruptions
Required Qualifications
- A combination of education and experience will be considered
- Equivalent to four (4) years of experience providing instructional support services for a related unit or discipline, or in producing materials or supplies or repairing equipment in a discipline related to the area to which assigned
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Biology or a related field
- Equivalent to six (6) years of experience providing instructional support services for a related unit or discipline, or in producing materials or supplies or repairing equipment in a discipline related to the area to which assigned. A combination of education and experience will be considered
Compensation
Classification: Instructional Support Technician III
Anticipated Hiring Range: $6,149/month - $6,655/month (Step 11 – Step 15)
CSU Salary Range: $5,044/month - $7,348/month (Step 1 – Step 20)
