POSITION: OUTCOMES & ASSESSMENT SPECIALIST- PROFESSIONAL SERVICES SPECIALIST 4

SALARY: $55,142.18- $88,214.84

LOCATION: OFFICE OF INSTITUTIONAL EFFECTIVENESS

Job Summary: Reporting to Vice President for Institutional Effectiveness, the Outcomes & Assessment Specialist provides research, data, and assessment support for grant-funded projects and other student-success initiatives at NJCU. The Outcomes & Assessment Specialist will research, identify and compile an inventory of assessments and metrics to gauge the impact of Title III and Title V grant-funded academic and other interventions, particularly as they pertain to graduation, persistence, transfer and enrollment rates. Specific focus will be applied to measuring the impacts of Supplemental Instruction, Embedded Tutoring, post-graduate planning, undergraduate research, mentoring, digital badging, and other learner supports on grades, academic standing, and persistence of students, as well as the utilization of these support services. The Outcomes & Assessment Specialist will assist the Career Development Lab in tracking the post-graduate planning and success of project participants and will also assist faculty in developing transparent assessments in Composition, Writing across the Curriculum, Community-Engaged Learning, General Education, and Capstone courses. Other duties will be assigned by the Vice President for Institutional Effectiveness.

DUTIES:

  • Serve as the OIE representative to support faculty grant applications and grant evaluations;
  • Serve as an OIE team member supporting the assessment of student learning and student success at NJCU;
  • Collaborate with project faculty and staff to develop reports, queries, and data-gathering and cleaning routines relevant to measuring the outcomes of project interventions;
  • Develop and apply analytical methodologies for meaningful interpretation of student-outcomes data, such as graduation, persistence, transfer, enrollment and utilization rates;
  • Develop and deliver disaggregated reports on enrollments, grades and demographics of departmental majors, academic programs, courses, class sections, mentoring and research cohorts, and other student-participant groups;
  • Work closely with the grant team to establish key performance indicators to monitor and evaluate project impacts;
  • Become familiar with the goals, methodologies and expected outcomes of Supplemental Instruction, Embedded Tutoring, post-graduate planning, undergraduate research, and other learner supports offered through federal grant support;
  • Present results of analyses and interpretations of results to campus stakeholders;
  • Meet regularly with grant staff to assist in identifying and planning assessment activities;
  • Communicate and collaborate with faculty members in developing transparent assessments for courses whose students avail themselves of grant-project services;
  • Manage and maintain accurate data, assess the effectiveness of services and products;
  • Additional, related work, as required.

EDUCATION: bachelor’s degree in a social science education, or quantitative field;

EXPERIENCE: At least two (2) years of experience in institutional research in the education sector or with the implementation of student-success interventions;

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to review, clean, collect, organize, and analyze quantitative and qualitative data with attention to detail and accuracy;
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills and ability to work with and communicate confidential information;
  • Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 suite, PeopleSoft, Tableau, and Adobe Acrobat, and demonstrated ability to learn new systems and technologies.

PREFERRED:

  • Master’s degree in Higher Education or related social science or quantitative field;
  • Demonstrated full-time work experience with quality improvement, outcomes measurement, reporting, and project management;
  • Working knowledge of student development theory and a general understanding of student success and access programming;
  • Experience working with diverse populations of students, faculty, professionals and staff;
  • At least three years of experience working in higher education;
  • Ability and willingness to occasionally work evening and weekend hours;
  • Strong verbal and written communication and organizational skills.
