Outreach Aide (SC - Financial Aid)
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
The Financial Aid Outreach Aide helps students and families learn about the financial aid options available at the college. Working under close supervision, the Aide supports outreach events, assists students with basic questions about financial aid programs, and helps promote important deadlines and resources. The role includes providing general information, helping with event setup, sharing materials, and supporting communication and follow-up efforts to encourage students to apply for aid.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES
The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.
- Assist with financial aid outreach activities such as high school visits, community events, workshops, and campus tours.
- Provide general information about financial aid programs, including FAFSA, California Dream Act Application (CADAA), the California College Promise Grant, and other basic financial aid options.
- Help guide students through simple steps in the financial aid application process and connect them to staff for more complex questions.
- Distribute financial aid flyers, brochures, and other promotional materials.
- Help set up and clean up outreach events, tables, and displays.
- Maintain simple records of event attendance, contacts, and follow-up needs.
- Make reminder calls, send emails, and assist with social media postings about financial aid deadlines, workshops, and events.
- Perform basic clerical tasks such as photocopying, preparing packets, filing, and entering information.
- Work with other departments and community partners to support outreach activities.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
- Basic concepts of financial aid and the purpose of FAFSA and CADAA.
- General understanding of services provided by California community colleges.
- Principles of customer service and effective communication.
- Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and basic computer operations.
- Professional and confidential handling of student information.
Ability to:
- Explain information in a friendly, helpful, and easy-to-understand way.
- Communicate clearly with students, families, staff, and community members.
- Work respectfully with people from many different backgrounds.
- Follow directions, stay organized, and complete tasks on time.
- Work well in a team and also complete tasks independently.
- Maintain confidentiality and professional behavior at all times.
- Adapt to different work locations and event needs.
- Work occasional evenings and weekends for outreach activities.
- Attend scheduled meetings and trainings.
- Report to work on a regular and consistent basis, as scheduled, to assigned job.

Work takes place both in an office and in the community at schools, events, and partner locations. Some events may be outdoors and in different weather conditions. Requires flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends. Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds for event materials. Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during events. Frequent use of computers, phones, printers, and standard office equipment. Vision: Normal range (with or without correction); ability to read printed and digital materials. Hearing: Normal range (with or without correction) to communicate in person and over the phone.

Work Schedule: TBD - Schedule and shift vary and are subject to change in accordance with the department's needs.
