About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for an Operations Manager to join Oxford Cancer, a city-wide research initiative and partnership between Oxford University, Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust, Thames Valley Cancer Alliance, and the Oxfordshire Clinical Commissioning Group.

The post holder will be part of the Oxford Cancer Hub, a diverse team of administrators, project managers and scientists, working with researchers and managers from across Oxford’s 25 cancer researching departments and administrators at the Medical Sciences Division Office.

An important part of Oxford Cancers activity is effectively managing a series of cross cutting infrastructure and support services that enable the formation of new collaborations between cancer researchers across Oxford, and prepare their projects for external funding.

The role will involve managing a team of 4 administrators and managers responsible for and delivering Oxford Cancers training; patient and public involvement; pump prime funding; communications; events, symposia and workshops; and governance objectives. This post is an exciting opportunity for someone who is keen to work in a leadership role for a world leading research centre, and who would be motivated to help find solutions so the Oxford Cancer runs efficiently and effectively. A positive and flexible attitude is important, with a pro-active approach to the role.

This post is based at the Oxford Cancer, OCDEM, Churchill Hospital, OX3 7LE and is offered on a full-time fixed term basis until 30 September 2027. The post may also be offered as a secondment opportunity.

About you

You will be educated to A-level or equivalent with a professional qualification in project management, such as PRINCE2, and experience of prior management or organisational operational roles. You will have a track record leading the delivery of scientific events and symposia, alongside excellent written and verbal communication skills.

You will demonstrate the ability to manage concurrent projects of varying importance and urgency, work effectively with stakeholders including a range of senior and junior academics and administrators, and show independent initiative and excellent problem-solving abilities in resource and time constrained environments. You will have experience of managing, supporting, coordinating and developing teams of varying seniorities, together with experience of using qualitative and quantitative outcome monitoring to deliver continual improvement implementation for a variety of events and administrative programmes.

Experience of working within the University setting and relevant policies, regulations, legislation, and codes of practice for delivering the above activity would be advantageous.
