Position Announcement
Coordinated through a partnership between the Utah Tech University (UT) College of Health Sciences and the Utah Area Health Education Centers (Utah AHEC), this program coordinator provides logistical support for various efforts that relate to the recruitment and retention of rural/underrepresented people in rural areas of Utah. Two positions support the Utah Health Scholars (UHS) programs, youth-level healthcare recruitment programs and other related programs conducted through the office, including health education.
This position supports our Community-based programs with a focus on grants, contracts and population health programs in rural and underserved parts of the state. This position is located in St. George, connected to UT employment (with funding supplied by Utah AHEC), reports to the Dean of the College of Health Sciences, and supervises any part-time student employees working at Utah Tech University.
Responsibilities
- Assist with the coordination of existing programs related to Utah Health Scholars at Utah Tech University. The position may require weekly travel to Utah cities, including St. George and Cedar City, as well as other travel throughout the state.
- Manage daily activities of programs currently in place within four Utah higher education institutions and the regions they serve. This includes, but is no limited to the management and teaching undergraduate pre-health seminar courses, facilitating job shadowing opportunities, advising college students on course selection, providing guidance for graduate programs, and increasing program enrollment if working in the Utah Health Scholars programs.
- Manages grant-funded and self-supported programs, if working in Community Projects program.
- Supervise student staff members, including hiring, training, and student development. May also recruit and provide guidance to student volunteers.
- Assist with program assessment, including tracking and analysis methods used to measure outcomes and outputs of programs.
- Develop program plans and related budgets. Assists with contracts and agreements to meet program objectives.
- Assist in planning long and short-range program objectives and activities.
- May coordinate and oversee hiring instructors and students, reserving campus spaces, managing lending library, and program accounts.
- Plan and facilitate cultural immersion volunteer trips for pre-health college students to domestic and international locations, with assistance of other staff members.
- Participate in high school and college outreach, including recruitment and retention activities, with a focus on assisting underserved students in gaining entrance to healthcare programs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Associate's degree in a related field or 2 years of direct work experience required.
- Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills, including presentations and public relations.
- Technology skills, including computer applications and presentation programs.
- Experience working with students and/or rural health issues or elated experience.
- Strong work ethic and a demonstrated ability to work independently and take initiative.
PREFERRED QUALIFIACTIONS
- Bachelor's degree in a related field.
- Experience in career counseling in the health sciences or equivalent.
- Background in student affairs, counseling, or healthcare.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion.
- Familiarity with careers in healthcare.
- Supervision experience.
Supplemental Information
POSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Part-time hourly staff (20 hours per week) position. Hours are flexible Monday through Friday during normal business hours, to be decided with supervisor.
